This is just too beautiful. The character is consistent plus the development is well paced too. I love how realistic it is and how the flow of story isnt forced at all. This is a work that feels like it has been thought of well. I just love this so much! Definitely Worth a thousand rereads.

there's different stages of deafness his is really advanced so he can only hear really loud noises I'm guessing he could also hear plane engines and explosions and the like the taiko is a really loud drum and drums can be used as a medium to show emotions too, that probably the reason he was so drawn to them
