I just binge read all of this and I am appalled how some people can say shit like Shahi and Derek's ending was so sad and they wanted better for them. Like Shahi on his own, yeah. But together? Their relationship? Derek literally raped Shahi as a child and continued to do so for years. I don't understand how the author could turn Shahi's feelings into love. Throughout the entire story up until the end he acted as though Derek's actions to him we're constantly a burden to him. And you can't claim their story to be some narrative on unhealthy love because the ending never treats their relationship as something wrong, only ever something good with a tragic end. Honestly the ending for the two just ruined the entire story for me. I'd wanna go back and re-read it but knowing the ending for those two it makes me sick and I don't wanna touch the physical copies I have. Every single ending was good expect for that and I'm pissed. I wish I could just go back in time when I never read this or somehow change the ending. Have Prince Derek still die or something and give Shahi a kid and/or even let him turn into a woman if he wanted that. But what we got was just fucking terrible.
I got bored midway and kinda contemplated dropping the series but I just went with the flow, skipped some pages and finally finished reading it lol would love more stories on June and the dashing princess though :3

Jed and Nicole was literally Brother-sister wife, the gender bender thing with the Forrest people was so odd. Seemed like just grown into the story for Drama's sake.
It's not ok to basically kidnap and rape that is NOT love it never will be... Ending I hated Especially the garbage with the king, I mean what an unbelievable AssHole. It was everything and the kitchen sink, leave no cliche unturned.

Oh ok. Yeah it's probably not the type of story you're looking for. The whole manga is basically looking at the dark, twisted side of love. Nicol's family are the only characters who have anything close to romantic love in this.
Derek (the crown prince) was an evil character. He raped and enslaved a very young boy. The relation between him and Shahi was more complicated that 'love', it was more like Stockholm Syndrome and obsession. Derek loved Shahi obsessively. His love was incredibly twisted and cruel.
I don't know about Nicol and Jed's love being sister-wife. That term to me refers to polygamy and I don't think that's what you mean. I think you mean they're too much like family right?
Jed said 'this is for a lover, this is for a little sister, this is for a little brother - you're a combination of all three.' and then 'you decide what kind of man you want to be'. They had to marry for political reasons and like all arranged marriages it's going to have an unusual relationship with love. But he was leaving it up to Nicol what kind of relationship they ended up with. Nicol is very young. Love between lovers is beyond him at this point. So their relationship ends up at this halfway point.
She wrote a letter to the oldest brother that she ended up giving in and taking up with the father again. She said that she knew she was being stupid going back to him when he was such a shit lover, but she would try. If it failed she planned to not return again and stand on her own feet.
We're not told what happened beyond that, I think because she's no longer important to the kingdom. But also, it's nice to hope things worked out for her.

Normally I'd think he'd have had experience before Nicol because this setting usually means sex is a coming of age thing (and he's a lot older than Nicol). But he said he wasn't desperate to become a man and his reputation was as someone who didn't care for women. So he doesn't seem to have any experience other than Nicol.
