Every time I reread, I love the characters all over again—everyone except Reiji’s demonic father, who leveraged Kiichi at every turn. Vol 6 Ch 2.1- 2.2 Was soooo good. In the later chapters, the seme returned to B&B because the uke had passed on which was depressing. This story is always a great read because every new pairing ties into the same works the main characters live in and every character shows growth.
Even with the problematic age gaps and some problematic crap like the number one Blue boy entering prostitution at 13 (?) and a physician thinking that's a good idea instead of proper therapy (?), I ended up loving the story and the characters.
There are some couples that I don't really care about but the main characters had good backstories.
I'd say some of the short stories about other couples weren't needed like it didn't add anything to the main stories, the only ones that I enjoyed was Izumi's and the hosts with the kid. Both had problematic elements but Izumi with his past deserved happiness and the other kid too.
recently finished rereading this for Aoe and Naoya and saw this comment... he was among the list of victims in the aircraft accident. basically he was with Aoe senior and the two Kashimas when the accident occured but only the pilot's body was retrieved so who knows if they ever made it out or not
The journy is nit easy for these guys, but i a way they all have happy endeing. The tragic is in the way, like losing loved one, being betrayed and more. I can recoment, the ending is maybe little bitter sweet but good.
I reread this a bit after like more than a decade and I can totally see how todays kiddies would auto flag this as problematic, and it is, but god do the emotions hold up despite the yaoi man faces/hands. This type of set up was really common back in “the day” so try to just imagine the age gap and power dynamic away if you want to try to enjoy it I guess ¯_(ツ)_/¯
tbh same. rereading after so many years realizing the age gap is so ick. it was so normalize back then that most people was ok w it. kinda funny and weird
I just finished rereading it and the way I pretended I did not see Tamaki being 13/14 lmaoooo but I still love it and just like you said, it's a series of its time and despite all the sussy stuff, it still holds up today and I'm always emotional when I read some parts of it

I cried in the flashback about shiki and also the other one(maybe the seme was tomoki and the uke was suffering from brain tumour)!! Still, happy that the both the main semes found there happiness again!!
Tomoki and that one "host" story was just straight-up cruel. Part of me is happy that they only got few chapters so I wasn't particularly attached to them, but also another part of me hoped that we got to see them together being happy for a longer time.
