Back to reread Natsume Yuujinchou for the nth time, it's such a comfort manga for me. I know natsume yuujinchou has a big fanbase in Japan and some asian countries but it's kind of a shame how, where I live, not many people know of this manga. Makes me kinda sad cause this is such a masterpiece.
The updates are not frequent but that's why I feel even more happier when I do see this manga update. I'll see y'all when the next chapter drops (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
This is one of my all-time favourite manga's. Every chapter is so beautiful and emotional. It always leaves me with a warm feeling. Even it can be bittersweet. I love it (≧∀≦)
That part where youkai remembered Reiko always got me teary eyed. How they look up for her and how just a short meeting with Reiko stayed in their memory for a long time and meaning something in their life. Reiko don't even meet them again even though she promised. She's lonely and she too prideful to called all those youkai names she collects as "friends". Hoping that she somehow found her own happiness.
I have a feeling it's kept as additional content (meaning it would be mentioned far later on) I'm curious if Reiko could be summoned (sometimes imagined her grandson summoning her due to some extreme complication or a fragment of her soul in some object) Even about Matoba's elder sister who doesn't like cats hasn't been brought up yet. I like this balance of light and heavy situations. Despite being slice of life, it has horror scenes and jumpscares. On a side note, I like how it's non-romantic other than oogling fangirls of Natori, only uncomfortable part was how youkais & at times humans substitute MC for Reiko, which was uncomfortable whenever it came up. It was like MC was just a carbon copy of a dead person long gone... felt like skipping those parts, but without those, flashbacks of Reiko would be meaningless. Especially Hinoe, MC wouldn't get it as he's a pushover when it comes to dealing with someone emotionally, but he is just a fake Reiko for her. It's just sad that only some scenes are shown where he is himself, NOT Reiko.
As in previous ch, there's someone who lost the ability to see youkai after they become an adult Did Reiko becomes like that too?? That's why there's only a highschool version of reiko in youkai's memories And will natsume become like that too? I'm scared of the future
I don't think so. Iirc, the one who lost his ability only saw some yokai so his connection with them wasn't very strong to begin with. And Natori's mentor also lost his ability likely due to age (just my hypothesis since they say children are more likely to see yokai since it's folklore that they're aren't fully human yet. But then grow out of seeing them eventually) his power was also only low-mid ranged. Natsume is quite stronger (even if he doesn't know how to use it) so I think it's less likely he'll be unable to see yokai. It's never been mentioned or shown that those with strong power lose them over time.
I think the main reason we only see Reiko in her high school years is bc she died young (which I'm curious about. Like how exactly??) But the rest of her time probably involves Natsume's grandfather and that's purposely left an even bigger mystery for us to agonize over.

I wonder if this story will follow Natsume until he enters college, maybe. How would this play? he would leave the countryside? his adventures could go on in the city? Sensei would follow him? It makes me really curious to see what the author would come up with, since it's a totally different vibe from what we have of this adventures in the camp
Maybe he'll be a forever student like Conan (￣∇￣") Lipilu
Given my experiences in various manga, I have a strong hunch about this, lol. His future life will probably only exist in an epilogue when the manga has ended.
