Lol i got called forth coz of a false notif on Ao haru ride.....and read yhe addtl. for Strobe Edge....was reluctant to read it.....coz is one of the few stories I refused to reread.....
I read it like more than a decade ago???? And hated it.
I hate the ML, hated the FL...the story... Can't really remember the pull content...
But I remember the feeling well......
I felt bad for the 2ML....
It was frustrating.....
This is on the same page as Bokura ga ira for me ......traumatizes my young brain...
Now an adult.....i still refuse to reread it....coz i don't wanna relive the frustrations ahahaha
I actually just read Strobe Edge for the first time, and as an adult. I get why people find Ninako frustrating, especially when you look at her from a more mature perspective. But honestly, I think her actions make sense for her age and where she’s coming from. She’s not really being selfish — just young, inexperienced, and trying to understand her feelings the best way she knows how. Being friend-zoned doesn’t mean your emotions instantly disappear, and it’s normal to feel sad or confused when someone you care about suddenly puts distance between you. What I like about Strobe Edge is that it doesn’t romanticize love too much — it shows how relationships can drift apart naturally as people change, like how Ren and his girlfriend grew distant because of priorities and time. Ninako’s way of handling things isn’t perfect, but that’s what makes her feel real to me — she’s learning how to love, let go, and respect boundaries in her own messy, human way.
bro i hate ninako's personality it's not just being resilient or whatsoever it's just you being selfish and a pushover. if you totally get that you're rejected and you just want to be friends, then don't sulk about ren putting on some distance between you two, know your boundaries. as for ren, he practically just fell out of love with his first girlfriend, and then started falling for someone else. it happens most of the time in a failing relationship wherein both of parties have their own priorities. it's a great plot but it's just so different because most of the time shoujo girls are typically loved by many. don't get me wrong, i've read this before and i was like "so cute, i like this one." but rereading this now, the FL is actually so annoying, i hope she took the time to think of andou for a while (in which she did, but still always going back to ren) i feel like it's just the execution of her resilience that is throwing me off because instead of becoming loveable for that trait of hers, it became a nuisance instead. i HONESTLY adore cheerful FL in many shoujo mangas out there, it's just that hers became so surrounded by ren she's all over him and she doesn't even think of him having a girlfriend. is my thought delivered here? great plot because it also explores the depths of relationship where what if both of you became so distant from each other, or something like that. ninako could have a better way to be just there around ren but not to the point she's like becoming an unlikeable type of female lead. if i was her friend i would definitely talk about not being around someone who has a significant other already because that is just plainly disrespectful considering she likes ren ╥﹏╥ that's all
I read that when I was younger and I was thinking : « wow such an amazing manga loved it ! » but now as an adult re-reading it sucks I can’t understand why I liked it so much. Don’t get me wrong I love the author but this story doesn’t catch me anymore. I couldn’t even get past chap 5. Cause wow but Daiki is such a good guy I feel like crying ╥﹏╥
But the fact that Ren had a girlfriend and he started to have feelings for another girl ( the FL ) is something that can can happen to anyone. Even tho it was more like he was taking responsibility it’s still his first love. If he stopped having feelings he should have said so without causing a mess. It really feels sh*tty for the girlfriend but it shows that feelings can change when you meet someone and start to really know that person.
That’s not cheating at all you just hang out as friends it’s when they act on it that is called cheating. Or when they know they love someone else and they’re not breaking up with their current girlfriend for a long time.
( I feel like you must have some time to accept that you love someone else than your girlfriend and then tell her the truth. But longer than that can be considered cheating yeah )
But seriously can we talk about the FL personality ? Like I know she never fell in love before and she sees a handsome face so she’s attracted to him. But does she not have some basic common sense. Get to know the guy before falling in love with him ( ̄へ ̄) She said she understood when she got rejected but her behaviour doesn’t show it. I feel like if she wasn’t the FL we would all hate her and ask her to leave Ren alone. But the fact that he still falls in love with her, I guess it works so..
Well this work really messed up my mind sorry I was rambling ;) Needed to get that out of the system (๑•ㅂ•)و✧
Thank you. I used to obsess over sakisaka sensei's work, I still love her but I'm quite disillusioned with her stories and started seeing the problematic parts of them
my feelings for this story is half half. I like it, the slow, excruciating pain, exciting, burning passion for love. The story clearly depicts how love should be during middle/high school. Messy, full of mistakes, forgiveness, exciting, painful, regrets, doubts, one sided feelings, and so on.
I like how love was not shown as something easy to throw or obtain. I love how it made all the characters realize that love is flawed and not forever.
I would like to share my take on each character personality, Let me first start with our cutesy FL, Ninako. Her point of view clearly shows how a first love goes for a middle/high school student. There were times where you will think that you are doing the right thing, when in fact you are not. And that's fine because you are learning. It was not her fault that Ren fell in love with her. She clearly tried to wish for Mayuka and Ren to patch things up in their relationship because she didn't want Ren (also Mayuka) to feel hurt/sad.
Secondly, Ren. Reading some of the comments blaming Ren. I do kind of get your side but I would also like to share something. The reason why Ren was mostly hate by some of the readers was because he cannot draw lines/boundaries with Ninako considering he was with Mayuka that time, and the Fact that he also didn't said anything to Mayuka about Ninako confessing to him. I think the reason why Ren is like that was because he would "like" to appear more mature/dependable to Mayuka. As Mayuka constantly depends on him. Seeing Mayuka happy and depending on him must've made Ren thought that he was doing the right way of taking care of her girlfriend. For those who keep commenting that Ren didn't love Mayuka and only stayed with her because of his promise. Remember that he loved Mayuka enough for him to suppress himself for being childish because he didn't want to burden his girlfriend.
Third, Mayuka. I love how her relationship with Ren shows that change is not entirely a bad thing. Especially when it stops you for being you. Mayuka is a kind and understanding gf. I kind of get why she acted like that. It was just a fear she got from her parents. It affected her so much that It even put a strain to her relationship with Ren. What made me sad about their story is the fact that their love prevents them from being the person they should be. I'm actually happy for Mayuka for finding change something you could brace on. Her life didn't end when they broke up.
Actually, both Ren and Mayuka had faults in their relationship. Ren for not opening up to her girlfriend more and Mayuka for putting Ren as something that she could easily reach on when she's only free. Glad to see that Mayuka found herself something that she actually likes.
Next is Andou, I like his persistence. But I hated how he ended up stealing Ninako's first kiss just to push her to Ren. I do love the part how he remained true to his feelings about Ren. He showed his hate and support to his friend and ultimately, he found himself changing for better. Not the cool Andou, but the silly Andou. I feel bad for him tho but that's exactly how unrequited love works.
Next is Gaachan!, I kind of hate how he cannot read the atmosphere sometimes HAHAHAHH also the part where he rooted for Sayuri's ex just because he's not friend with Daiki. I see him as a voice in your head telling you that there is something wrong and you should do something about it. Like how he kept bugging Ren to be true to his feelings towards Ninako. It's true tho that Ren should be true to his feelings because prolonging the lies will furthermore hurt both him and Mayuka.
Another is Daiki, I love how he didn't push Ninako too much regarding his feelings for her. It's funny how he moved on so fast tho HAHHAHAA. But that doesn't mean he didn't actually like Ninako. Maybe liking Ninako becomes natural for him because they had been together since they were a child. But him realizing and slowly falling for Sayuri, AMAZING. I love his character development as a consistent, faithful, caring, and understanding boyfriend.
LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST, MY FAVORITE, DANCHOU!!! HE IS ADORABLE, MOST HARD WORKING, KIND, AND WISE PERSON. I LOVE HIS CHARACTER. I WISH HE GETS HIS OWN STORY AND I WISH HIM HAPPINESSS
i dont really like this one it made me cry for andou he deserves better and mayuka ?? dude she had to do what she feared the most, parting with Ren-kun. She feared change and she had to take initiative ending it with him while she was dealing with her father’s remarriage :( Ninako is an okay chcaracter but it seriously made me irritated how she inittially rejected ren when he rejected. You liked him ever since you met him so i dont understand how the feelings of pity overpower your love. The fact Mayuka had to watch and notice her bf getting coldsr and falling in love with another girl made me cry especially because I relate to it and Andou’s constant “why ren ?” was so personal !!!! love sucks and this manga is too real it hurts
