Transient Flower

Complete | Harumi Chihiro | 2000 released

Very sad, but powerful and meaningful. The story wouldn't have had the same impact with a happy ending, but I wish I could see more of this character. She's interesting, and her story begs to be examined further. Oh well. I wish I could see her ripping out the hearts of those dick guys from before. It kind of reminds me of this horror manga that I found hilarious, about a girl who starves herself to get a guy to like her, and after she gets super skinny, he's into her, but as they kiss, she gets incredibly hungry from starving herself so long and eats him. That's how all guys like that should be handled.

Redemption Camp

Ongoing | ramjak | 2016 released

Why the fuck did I read this piece of shit? I mean, I hated it before I even started it, and yet I just. couldn't. stop. Dear lord, though, those gravity-defying breasts. Girl, you could have easily knocked all those dudes out with those things.

Beautiful World

Complete | Sakuradata Hina | 2000 released

Aw, that was really sad! I knew it would be, but damn. It wouldn't have made me so sad if he hadn't wanted a friend so badly. His reactions were what got me. Definitely a downer.

Junjou Shounen

Complete | Sunako | 2015 released

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I really can't stand when omegaverse stuff uses female terms for male omegas. "Wife" and "mother" and "mom" just sound weird, but the issue I have is that whole "being penetrated makes you a woman" bs that ties misogyny and homophobia together. I mean, trans men who give birth don't refer to themselves as mothers. It just irks me. Plus his "mom" had that super dorky mom haircut that you see, making it really hard for me to remember he was a dude. That aside, the fact that the alpha supremacist father so easily flips around like that made me roll my eyes a little. There were things here and there that irked me, and I debated on my rating of this one. But ultimately, it was an interesting story with a sweet pair (though with the risk of him being bitten and claimed by someone else, why not just get it done with?), and even with its flaws, it was better than a lot of the stuff that happens in many omegaverse stories. At least this one doesn't treat rape like it's a firm handshake. So four stars it is.

Kiseki to Amedama

Complete | Nishin Masumi | 2016 released

This mangaka has a clear fetish for people saving a person at the expense of their own life and well being, only to discover that that person is a monster and not worth being saved. I actually liked the twisted elements of the story, but it was too short for what it was, and that open ending where you don't know if he pulls the trigger or not is frustrating. That aside, this Christ dude really needs to die. It sucks that someone he loves has to be the one to perish instead. Yet another thing that wouldn't have happened if Christ's dad had just killed him in the first place. And no, it clearly wasn't because he was abusive or angry his son was gay. He isn't gay, he's a pedophile. His father walked in on him having sex with an elementary school kid. Who the hell processed that guy as an adult after all that? Surely there had to have been some questions. Though I've read real life murder cases with fatal levels of incompetence, so I guess it isn't so far fetched.

Omerta - Kochou No Yume No Kate

Complete | Karin Entertainment,NATSUMI Kanna,TATEISHI Ryou | 2011 released

"And he's letting me live!" Aw, how romantic! I really wanted to enjoy this manga, but it was BS like that that killed it. Even with the rape to love, which I loathe, I was gonna give it three stars because I feel like there isn't enough decent yakuza/hitman type stuff out there. But the moment he yelled at JJ for being "kind" when he "slept with" Azusa, I just couldn't do it. Not the worst thing I've ever read, but give me a break. "When you were raping me, you shouldn't have been nice! Now I want to be your waifu!" Come on, yaoiland. Come on.

Yami No Koe

Complete | Ito Junji | 2002 released

Oh god, that fifth story made me dry heave. So disgusting. The other stories weren't like that, so it was kind of random how sick it was. Anyway, these were all interesting little concepts with some occasionally creepy as hell art. The biggest downside is that almost every story would stop in the middle of the situation for some long, bizarre moment of exposition, where a character would fill everyone in on what was going on. It disrupted the pace, but it was also just awkward, like, "Oh, by the way, here's a long retelling of the history of this horror show. Just thought you should know that I'm being held against my will and you're gonna die. Lol, kay, have a nice night, folks." I actually started reading because of the nightmarish face that finally appears in the fourth story. That was an interesting one, though it had the same issues. I liked the sixth story, about the earth bound, though I guessed immediately what the cause was both in general and with the boss. Still, I would have liked to seen more on that one. I like how the artist draws certain people. They have an interesting approach. Kinda wish they drew BL, too, cause some of these boys were pretty. Maybe the fact that I was thinking that while horrible things were happening to them says something not-so-great about me, but hey, lol.

Boku wa Ninkimono

Complete | Inutoki, Shouhe | 2000 released

I don't really know what I was reading there. Maybe if I read it again, carefully, I'd pick up more of the intent beyond the basic concept of a sadist feeling weak over a victim's response. Like the first time anyone has ever "accepted" him. The story was too all-over-the-place and rushed to have that impact, though. Also... how his nose was running, and then he put his mouth... ugh... I'm gonna dry heave if I keep thinking about it. EDIT: Oooooh, okay, now that I've read the first part, it all makes sense. I enjoyed the first one a million times more. It was great. This one... I'm really not sure what the mangaka was going for here. It didn't add to the first, just made things more confusing. Meh, whatevz.

Maki-chan wa Kare to Sex Shitai

Complete | TOMOCHI | 2017 released

The way people were acting, I thought this was going to have a sad ending, but it was perfect! THIS is what I want. This is the hurt/comfort that I crave! Why can't there be more yaoi like this? Where the seme loves and protects his uke, and the harm comes from some other piece of crap? There's no force or rape to love or any of that garbage. Just real emotion. Plus, for me it's the psychology of trauma and the character working through it that draws me to violence and rape in manga, so it makes me sad that so often rape is romanticized or treated like a firm handshake. This was exactly what I was looking for. The beginning was a bit clumsy and rushed, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but I was very happy with where it went. I imagine people are freaking out because the rape was so graphic and the character actually had a realistic reaction to being assaulted, but the tags *did* say there was rape, and every chapter had a warning for violence, etc. So why are 90% of the comments people bitching about it? If you're a delicate person, skip stories that say that they contain violence and rape. At any rate, I really enjoyed this one, and it's the embodiment of my list, "Rape that Doesn't End in Love."

Ijimete Ageru.

Ongoing | TAKAMURA Anna | 2015 released

I actually kind of like the sinister nature of this, though even the lukewarm rape scene is indicative of the typical yaoi ending. Knowing that it'll mostly be easily forgiven torture and mistreatment, and the seme will face no real consequences for his actions, I can't justify spending money on this. Not when it'll just piss me off. So it's a shame that it's licensed. Oh well.
