No hate but how is this an "unpopular" opinion? Everywhere I lurk online these days have at least 50 different people complain about these "tourists" or "performative" fans every single day. 100% agree. The amount of hate I see for people being themselves in fandom spaces irritates me to my core because that's literally the point. They're really just following the trend of being a "weird kid" and liking nerdy shit cuz it's mainstream now. reply

They genuinely hate on the most basic fandom behaviors. For example, they hate on cosplay, fan art, shipping, fan fiction, etc., saying that it’s 'cringe,' shouldn't be normalized, and that 'those things ruin the fandom.' THOSE THING LITERALLY BUILT THE FANDOM If you don't enjoy this type of content, there’s nothing wrong with that, but there is no need to hate on people for it. Pardon some people for enjoying things other than power scaling and phonk edits.

I'll smoke and then do an activity that'll take all my attention while I'm high. I'll do a 3d puzzle (the kind that comes with like 4 pages of instructions and 200 steps) or play a video game or watch a random movie I've never seen. reply

I've tried some mindfulness exercises which are okay, but what works best for me is to lie down and close my eyes (or get outside and stare into nature) and narrate my favorite books or movies scene by scene in my head, in as much detail as possible. Great distraction. I end up making my own stories sometimes too. reply
