I understand what you tryna say. I have some friends who when i mentioned yaoi thought it's just gay porn I read when I am reading that stuff for the plot. It all comes down to perspective and what the person who said it is trying to say. Personally I don't care. Even if you say BL people think you are a fetishizer. I don't care. It's an outdated term, I don't use it anymore personally but y'all do what you want.

It really depends for me on intent. obviously if someone is calling it Yaoi and fetishizing it then yeah, but some people grew up calling it Yaoi. And admittedly, so did we. It's our vocab. It's just intent for me.

Am I the only one that feels really uncomfortable when someone uses the term "yaoi" and not BL? I always automatically think that that person is a fetishizer and doesn't see the genre as more than porno to get off to
I haven’t seen much personally, probably just cause of the genres I like, it when I do see trans characters they’re normally handled pretty well, most recently was tasuku tsubakino from windbreaker. reply
I would say it's a case by case scenario. There are manga with great representation, manga with ok representation, manga where you can at least see the good intentions the mangaka had, and then there are manga that truly belong in the trash lol
