you can say the same thing about people reading shoujo or yuri, all three have unrealistic and toxic tropes. All that’s needed to read either of the three w/o being influenced is the discretion that none of this is real nor an accurate representation of reality....which I’m pretty sure a 13y/o can have. 3 reply
I would like to say I agree, well I do to the most part -except age thing. I'm 16 this year, but I view 18+ content for years now, like most of us do. So I just don't want to say "it's wrong to read while your age falls short!1!!1!" since I might as well eat sh*t then. Let's give a cute example.

There are quite a lot of stereotypical girls in anime that portrait very unreallistic, toxic and sexist behaviors simplifying females as irrelevant and simple love interests. However, this also happens in western media since it's the result of years and years of internalized sexism in our everyday life and culture.

Well thats the reason why I chose what I watch or read. There are girl characters that are ultimate toxic and annoying and there are some who I almost imitate irl. And it also depends on the genre.
Proceed to action, shounen animes and you'll RARELY find annoying girl characters especially if they are on the protagonist's side.
