Readers surely do notice, the rape trope and other sick tropes but they threw their moral views out of the bus when it comes to yaoi because most readers want the explicit scenes. reply

I think rape can be a part of a story as long as the author in one way or another shows acknowledgement of that shit being wrong. I myself am more part of the "they're comics so who gives a fuck" side but I do think the rape trope is being taken way too far (SHOTA!!!!!) and too many stories use it, when I wish instead there were more stories about ...... reply
I'm beginning to suspect that there is a little more to the portrayal of rape/sexual assault in manga than "the authors have a kink for it" or "the authors write what sells." Of course that is sometimes the case, but how people write/see the world is often influenced by what happens around them.
