Hey asexual people, why do you like yaoi?
I'm actually asexual myself and I was quite surprised to see so many people who are also ace on this site! This is a question I've been asked before and I'm curious as to how others might answer as well.
Personally, I really enjoy reading about relationships between other people. I think that there's a part of me who really likes that fact that BL is between two boys, and that I (as a girl) could never put myself in either character's place.
Demipansexual here, and I like yaoi for the emotions (And on top of that if it's a great manga with a great plot, that's just the best), but not just love, ok? I love to see the desire in characters, they reactions and likes/dislikes, just like in shojo/josei, but I think the stories and emotions in yaoi are much more genuine, original and develope...... reply
I had never really thought about why i like Yaoi so much. but after giving it some thought i think its because of alot of the reasons everyone else mentioned. I think because i will never have the romance and the love that these couples share i read manga as a way of coping with the inevitable realization that i will never have that. I identify as Demisexual usually because I'm open to the possibility of being intimate with someone if we had a strong enough bond even though at present I've never felt any desire to do so. I'm specifically an autochorissexual ace. I enjoy indulging in romantic and sexual content of all types, though yaoi is by far my preference. It's just... better. It's more often meant for my gaze, not some guy who wants to see unrealistic boobs or overreactions. Even gay porn is better, IMHO, than straight porn. reply
Personally, if it's got a good plot with interesting characters, I'll read it, be it Yaoi, Yuri, Shonen, Shojo, whatever. However, though I don't get turned onto the sex scenes in Yaoi like I'm sure many readers do, I like how men fit together in an aesthetic sense. I find it pleasing on the eye. I read it for the romance fluff. I also use it to masturbate and what not. As others have said, I think am more comfortable with yaoi because as a female I could never be in the situation. I'm not supposed to identify as one of the characters which allows me to just enjoy. reply
I will read pretty much anything with a good plot. I love it when I read a good story and it gets me emotionally invested. To me, BL is just another manga.

Back to the topic, some of the reasons I like BL is:
1) Fluff and feels. Yeah, I'm aro ace but I still enjoy heartwarming manga. I avoid smutty works and skim over graphic scenes when they pop up.

While I'm ace, I'm completely not aro, and I just absolutely get thrilled whenever I watch/read about two people that love each other and stuff.
Now, I'll read pretty much any pairing: boys' love, girls' love, straight relationships, anything really.

I like yaoi cause it's yaoi. Shoujo, hentai and all that hetero romance has become too overdone and too ordinary. But yaoi, even if the stories are really cliche and ridiculous, I still won't get bored of them cause with yaoi I can never have that deja-vu feeling like I have with hetero romance stories ╮(￣▽￣)╭
