Trying to self-teach a language
I discovered duolingo online and was happy that they had Irish as one of the languages that you can learn. It has a bit of a personal connection for me because I come from a family of Irish-Appalachians. It's challenging, but I'm slowly making progress!
I need a better way to learn Japanese. Learning Japanese by watching yaoi has left me with a vocabulary consisting of things like; “no”, “stop”, “don’t”, “not here, people might see us”, etc. I have a feeling using this vocabulary in Japan, might get me some strange looks. 4 reply
My first language is Arabic, and I taught myself how to speak and write in fluent English because My little pony cancelled the Arabic DUB, and I wanted to watch it so I learned English from My Little Pony. 1 reply
Lol glad to see I am not alone in the self taught team(?) xD
I learned English by myself when my favorite yaoi blog closed and one if my favorite online games canceled the Spanish support... I watched lots of tvshows, series and movies and even kid toons (pocoyo, pepa pig... etc, they're so damn helpful o.o!) so I could get used to the language......... 1 reply

To be honest, self learning is not a very good method. I can speak more than 5 languages and I found that the most difficult part of each language is their structure. The second or third language that you learn might have an entirely different structure and sometimes when translated it does not carry 100% of the original meaning. This can be very m...... reply
English and JSL! Im trying to learn all the basics by myself before going to school and getting serious about it. Its kind of hard thats why I encourage myself to start reading manga and sign up here to practice English. I need to lose my fear of practicing. Im learning just with a bunch of books that I ask my friend in the U.S. to send me to learn...... reply
I speak English although it isn't my first language. My first language is Cantonese although over the years I've become terrible at it. It's hard to self study Cantonese. I do a bit of French and I want to learn Vietnamese, Korean, Japanese, Malay and seriously practice my Cantonese but no one I know speaks it besides my family and I doubt they wou...... reply
