You're sort of right, but at the same time Hisoka does have a weird af attitude towards Gon and Killua.
Based on my knowledge of him, Hisoka is a huge sadist, who takes pleasure in killing strong opponents. I heard that he likes to build them up to their peak; and then takes huge sexual pleasure from killing them at their strongest.
