Do you believe in natural talent/inborn talent?
Lately I think that I wasn't just bound to do the works I usually do with so much hardwork. Studying, drawing, playing instruments whatever I tried, I always find someone better than me. I put so much effort in the things I do yet I see people doing the same thing with putting less effort than me but better than me. That's why I do believe natural talent exists. When I think that I wasn't born with something like this, I feel so depressed and I have been down for this lately. Please tell me your thoughts.
No..?
You can be better at learning or picking things up, but that's entirely separate from being "naturally good" at something.
Learned skills are exactly that. Learned. reply
Wow I'm suddenly getting notification of a question I asked years ago *_*
I was very depressed about my drawings back then but lately I improved, got far better than before. But I still think I did my best even back then but the difference was my lack of experience which is why I missed a lot of details about not only drawing, but everything. I...... 1 reply
I feel the same way sometimes. I love drawing and it kind of makes me upset when people say that I was born talented, that's not the case! I worked my butt off to get where I am, so when they say that it feels like all the hard work I put in is meaningless.
What sets the hard workers aside from those that are "born talented" is the passion. All t...... 1 reply
NO! I'm so offended when someone says I was born with a skill I possess, like do you realize you're undermining all my hard work up until this point??? If you wanna be good at something you practice, you don't just wait for the skill to overcome you. 1 reply
No. I don't believe there's such a thing as natural talent. A talent is always something that we hone. You said you tried out a variety of things. And that's great. But, i wonder... If you were to focus merely on one talent and dedicate yourself for it, couldn't you then be above everyone else..
You said others are better than you even without much...... reply
This question is so old ^^;
I do, but I also think hard work surpasses talent. I'm a self-taught artist who had always been better than my peers at drawing. But when I became depressed in middle school (age 12), I stopped drawing and saw others surpass me as they practiced daily. It's been 5 years and I can confidently say I'm not one of the best ...... reply
Yes. There does exist a such thing as natural/inborn talent where people pick up different things much faster than others; thats just the harsh reality. HOWEVER, talent alone doesn't carry you very far. Simply relying on talent will mean "untalented" people who spend hours, days, months, years, centuries practicing and strengthening their skills wi...... reply
Personally I believe in it, met tons of people who are naturally talented- that doesn’t mean that naturally talented people don’t work hard (because they do work very hard), but there are some people who are really good at things from a young age that makes them naturally talented that’s all. reply
