Thoughts about rape in fiction?
Its here. We need to talk about this. I personally don't get why's people being mad about rape in mangas, manhwas, fanfics, etc. I mean sure its okay to have opinions. But sometimes, i saw some people commenting, saying how they dont support rape etc, even blaming the manga-- Even when the translator literally put a warning. Me personally, it doesn't bother me a lot since i know the difference between fantasy and reality. But i want to know other people's thoughts too.
Rape is absolutely disgusting and one of the worst acts a human can commit against another person. Fetishising it and using it as a "romance starter" is fucking disgusting and absolutely helps to propagate rape culture. Well, personally, it doesn't affect me one way or the other and that is because I have studied psychology and sexual psychology for many years. Rape has been part of romance for as long as stories have been told and written. And there is a good reason for it. As humans, we desire things and we are greedy by nature. What I don't get is why just rape. There are manga with blackmail, assaults, robberies, muggings, torture, murder, and all sorts of bad stuff. I mean if you're going to hate on and judge people because they like reading fiction with bad behavior in them, why just rape? 2 reply
People know it’s wrong. However, rape fantasy is very real. The reason why it’s popular is because many people get off on rape. This does not mean they think rape is romantic in real life! The creators create content for mature audiences who have these fantasies and don’t get triggered.

The problem of rape in fiction isn’t rape itself, it’s the romantization and naturalization it often comes with. It’s okay to have rape as long as the character who was raped suffer from all the trauma it causes. Tbh I feel the same as you. As long as the artist/author/translator clearly state that they're against rape in reality, and also put trigger warnings for those who aren't comfortable reading such thing, then I don't understand why people still hate on them.

Never bothered me. Almost all of yaoi I started with had rape. I wasn't even searching for it, it just happened to have that in the story. Same goes for 2 out of 3 of my first Japanese bl movies. I feel like 10 years ago this wasn't a subject in the yaoi circles. A simple warning was all that was needed, now even warnings don't work on some people...... 2 reply
I definitely don't actively search for manga/ manwha with rape. But honestly, these types of works are almost unavoidable. And there are some with rape scene/s that were good reads. Say for instance, I enjoy Ogawa Chise's works. It's all sorts of fucked up alright, but there's already an expectation in this artist's works. Fucked up, psychological...... reply
Yeah it's fiction and I don't really get bothered by stuff in fiction. However, there will always be people who think they are doing or supporting something bad unless they declare to the world that they don't like/support it. It's a personal "dilemma" thing. If that lessens their anxiety then good for them.

as a rape victim myself, rape in mangas/manhua disgust and triggers me, but as long as the author makes in clear that the rape happening in the story isn't romanticised and won't lead to a relationship and a happy ending and instead makes the victim over-comes their trauma and the rapist get's punished for his cime, im totally okay with it. but who...... 2 reply
