What makes yaoi so special?
Can fujoshis please explain to me what they find so interesting about yaoi? I've seen a lot of fujoshis that put yaoi up on a pedestal like it's the superior form of media, when it's really just gay hentai
I can enjoy a good BL story, but I'm confused as to why some fujoshis argue that it's better than stories with hetero relationships, and even going as far as to say "it would be better if it was yaoi"
I hope nobody takes this the wrong way. I'm just very curious to hear others' opinions on the matter
Yaoi is special for me because it reflects more emotions more than other similar categories like hentai, yuri and shoujo.
I know, shoujo also has emotions in it but sometimes they add it way too much or the opposite. And i don't like how they've been showing girls fragile, shy, stupid and can't let a word out of their mouth. They still use these ch...... reply
I do read other genres than Yaoi, but Yaoi was my favorite one out of all of the genres I have read. I don't know why Yaoi holds a special place in my heart it just does. reply
well for me as a fujoshi YAOI is just a part of my life. The thing that makes yaoi so special for me is that the stories are often much more interesting than those of hetero stories. For us, long time fujoshis, we have been reading a lot of hetero books and watched hella lot of hetero movies so for us it is basically predictable. Yaoi for us is a v...... reply
I live in an Islamic country so if anyone in my family learns that I look at sex I will be doomed just imagine what would they do if they found out that I read gay porn. I think what makes yaoi special for me is that it is very risky? As a fujoshi, I would not be accepted in my household so I just keep it to myself. 2 reply
I honestly don't know why I like it myself.
But while I agree with you that yaoi (except shonen ai) is indeed just gay porn. However, it is more than that. It is a love story. It is discovering yourself and loving someone despite society's hatred.(wait did I get weirdly weird??)
And when the sex is done right, It is not two men doing the do for th...... reply
My thought process is basically "what's better than one hot guy? Well, two hot guys cause why not?"
But also shoujo is great but I read all the og ones as a kid and now I'm sick of it. Plot ones, they're kinda all the same shit (yaoi too) but I wouldn't really compare these two genres. There's more of a focus on sex in yaoi (some may differ) but s...... reply
Bc its the first genre I've read. I slowly move on to other genre's yaoi-seinen-action-horror-shoujo-fantasy-isekai . So yaoi will have a special place in my heart bc it introduced me to the world of manga. reply
Well, as you said it's gay hentai but it's more than that.
For me, what made it special is the sex scenes and the plot, for a good yaoi. A few years ago, there were not many josei/seinen with explicit sex scenes. Now, a lot of webtoon, for example, are hentai-ish, unlike before.
Besides, a lot of yaoi have a very good plot that changes from the t...... 1 reply
One of the reasons for me, is to see guys be so tender with each other, and so affectionate. It's adorable. It's cuz guys are always told to be super manly and not show emotion and all that, so something like yaoi is so refreshing. Of course, this is also why I like shounen ai, or even non-romantic bromances.
I don't think it's a superior form of...... reply
