Question for fudanshi's: Do you think fujoshi's should stop?
A lot of fudanshi's have been asking fujoshi's why we like yaoi. I'm wondering if you think we shouldn't.
I've always liked yaoi. Even before I knew what yaoi was I shipped. I'd like to blame shows like boy meets world, scrubs and all other depictions of perfect bromances for making me realize I enjoyed this but honestly I probably would have come to it without them anyway. I love gay romances in films and tv shows. It warms my heart that these stories are now being told so much more. As a black woman I know how necessary representation is. Seeing this makes me feel like the world is becoming a better place.
I think the LGBTQ community is wonderful and I have always considered myself an ally. Truthfully, I don't always know where and if I fit into it (I'm a 2 on the kinsey scale if anyone thinks it's relevant). The safe spaces that the gay community has formed always made me feel safe too (not to mention they can be so much fun, the gay pride parade is my summertime highlight and I love gay bars, dancing without being groped is a great feeling). So even if I'm not really welcome it's still something I'd want to protect.
Basically I'd much rather be a good ally than a consumer. So do you think preferring yaoi over shojo or yuri is wrong? Is it inherently damaging to the gay community? Should I stop? I'd like honest opinions so feel free to comment on anything I've said. Also I understand you guys won't be able to represent the entire community here so personal opinions are welcome.
I'm not a fudanshi but a bisexual (more male leaning) guy, quite older than most people on here, and with over 15 years of real life experience in the gay community – not even once in my life have I heard an adult gay man complain about Fujoshis, or their liking being harmful, this claim is entirely made by very young individuals who try to speak...... 1 reply
You need to know that as long as you don't actually disrespect real life people, and as long as you can distinguish between reality and fiction, then you're good.
Liking a yandere seme who abuses his uke in fiction doesn't harm real people. It is fictional and the only person who is getting affected by it is the reader.

im sorry im not a fudanshi but im not a fujoshi either however i still have something to say. you can like what you like as long as it doesnt hurt anyone in real life. liking yaoi doesnt hurt anyone its just gay porn comics. i know you're a good person who doesn't sexualize real men or ship them so its fine to like yaoi. reply
While I don't identify with either fudanshi or fujoshi I do read yaoi, I can understand why the question is asked. While you're free as a person to read and buy anything you like, you have to admit that a lot of relationships that are in yaoi manga are often violent and unrealistic. This becomes a problem when for example, young girls that read thi...... reply
Being a fujoshi doesn't necessarily mean being an ally to the LGBTQ community. Similarly, being a fudanshi doesn't necessarily mean you are an ally to the LGBTQ community.
To set this record straight, Fujoshi and Fudanshi are just people who aren't shy towards bxb pairings. Simply put, it doesn't matter what your orientation is, you enjoy bl.
