anyone have gl recommends for me? ive read loads of bl, and sl is the mainstream so its everywhere. I like both a lot. for gl i dont know any good manga/manhua/books. Ive seen a lot of very romantic lesbian movies that were super well done that i loved (the handmaiden, painting of a lady on fire as recent examples). as a mostly straight girl i th......   2 reply

It's hard to go from an amazing BL to one that's sub par and get the same amount of enjoyment from them both. The more you read the more you're able to see what makes one story good and another not so good. I think it's a good thing. You've become more discerning. It's better to engage with art more critically. It's a skill to be able to tell the d......   1 reply

Definitely try to think of all of the things about Vic you didn't like. If you don't have anything you didn't like about him, that's probably a sign you didn't know him as well as you thought. If you have to make up/ speculate not so great things about him try that too. Every time you feel like you miss him remind yourself of these, remind yourself......   reply

I'm 23 and also never really been in a relationship. I had one 'boyfriend' in high school for about 4 weeks, two of which I was out of the country for, we kissed once, it sucked, then broke up. He's now one of my best guy friends and basically the closest I've ever felt to loving someone. Periodically, whenever I'm drunk and lonely/horny, I'll thin......   reply

Mimi's question ( All 1 )

A lot of fudanshi's have been asking fujoshi's why we like yaoi. I'm wondering if you think we shouldn't.

I've always liked yaoi. Even before I knew what yaoi was I shipped. I'd like to blame shows like boy meets world, scrubs and all other depictions of perfect bromances for making me realize I enjoyed this but honestly I probably would have come to it without them anyway. I love gay romances in films and tv shows. It warms my heart that these stories are now being told so much more. As a black woman I know how necessary representation is. Seeing this makes me feel like the world is becoming a better place.

I think the LGBTQ community is wonderful and I have always considered myself an ally. Truthfully, I don't always know where and if I fit into it (I'm a 2 on the kinsey scale if anyone thinks it's relevant). The safe spaces that the gay community has formed always made me feel safe too (not to mention they can be so much fun, the gay pride parade is my summertime highlight and I love gay bars, dancing without being groped is a great feeling). So even if I'm not really welcome it's still something I'd want to protect.

Basically I'd much rather be a good ally than a consumer. So do you think preferring yaoi over shojo or yuri is wrong? Is it inherently damaging to the gay community? Should I stop? I'd like honest opinions so feel free to comment on anything I've said. Also I understand you guys won't be able to represent the entire community here so personal opinions are welcome.
