Do you tip at restaurants?
Personally, when I know the restaurant pays their waiters/ waitresses the general minimum wage (above $8.25), then I don't tip (like California). Unless they gave great service, which is when I'll definitely tip.
But other than that, I don't see the point since they're already being paid to do their job. When I worked at an animal hospital, I was paid minimum wage ($8.25) as a vet tech. I always did my best to appease the patients/clients, and made sure they were happy and comfortable with my service. I went beyond my expected duties, which I didn't have to do and wasn't being paid extra for it. I did that to help as much as I can. I figured it was the same in restaurants.
I live in England, and most restaurants in my area dont take tips, same for most cafes and other food services. The only place that does take tips is a super fancy place, but with how expensive the place is i dont think they need it. Besides, the place should be paying the waiters themselves and not leaving it up to others. reply
