The lack of smut and good stories in shojo (well, ain't lying here, some are good but most of the time, the same clichés were to be expected again and again especially when smut was involved so... It's getting better now, in 2020 but at that time, it was terrible.)
Edit: For context, it was really back in the day, something like 2007 or something......
