Why do you like or dislike love triangles in BL (or other genres)?
I don't want to attack anyone's preferences, I'm just genuinely curious about your reasons. I personally dislike love triangles and here are my reasons: - I don't get why put three people together in a 'love' relationship if they won't be poly in the end and one person is going to be cast aside. In that way it's always hurtful and someone gets 'bad end' while the other two are happy together. Real life is also no bed of roses, but it's quite depressing to read. - For me it's a bit unbelievable that MC gets stuck between two guys and can't decide for 100 or more chapters (months or years in fictional world) which one he truly loves. If he doesn't feel strong enough about any of them, maybe he's still waiting for a third one to show up? I have no idea if it happenes in real life. Is it so unrealistic for me just because I didn't have such experiences myself? - It's a really unequal dynamic and I think it's difficult to make a character in the centre of a love triangle not too annoying. Leading two people around, giving them false hope... It screams selfishness, flippancy and irresponsibility. I can't understand how someone could be so frivolous when it comes to other people's feelings, even if they're just fictional feelings. That would be all. Please share with me your opinions. Maybe you can change my mind about this matter (I honestly hope so, because there are so many stories with love triangles nowadays that I find myself with nothing to read).
Because the main always goes for the toxic one. That or both are toxic and the main never drops them to become a better person which sucks because toxic relationships are so normalized in Romance genres. There is always some bad plot in them too but the art "makes up for it." reply

you know what would honestly be interesting more than a love triangle in a story? Have a story with the two MLs in a love triangle for the MC, but not only is it that MC has stated time and time again that they only feel platonic affection towards the both of them, MC already has someone they like an...... reply
My reasons for disliking are here:
1. Sometimes the main character keeps rejecting them and they keep showing up.
2. I 99% of the time immediately know who they will end up with and so the rest of the story is just torture for the other person.
3.The other person ends up being way better than the actual person they end up with and then it kills me ...... reply
Because I get attached to the person they first started being with then pop goes the second person and everyone ships them with them and I'm upset because I got attached reply
I can't stand love triangles because in the end somebody is gonna get hurt and I end up hating who ends up with the top (love interest) because the other one deserves so much better. This image below also shows my frustration when it comes to love triangles. reply
I hate love triangles and I agree with all your points. Most of the time I will simply avoid reading something that is obviously a love triangle but sometimes I read something thinking it'll end in a 3p and then it ends up being just another shitty love triangle and I feel disappointed.

Yes I hate them too and for all the same reasons. I always end up felling bad for the second lead and I also hate how they take forever to chose one and just drag it on.
