Reasons why someone would learn a foreign language
Why makes you learn a foreign language? and if you already speak a foreign language, do you plan to use your understanding of a language to have a job in the future?
I speak Spanish (first language) and English, but I'm also trying to learn Italian. I never thought about getting a job being a translator, interpreter or teacher, but that would be an opportunity that I could take in the meantime.
Honestly, I'm learning Korean just so I can have a drama on in the background and not need to read the subtitles lmfao. And to read manhwas that've been dropped!
But I do speak two languages fluently and one at a conversational level. My language skills aren't really handy in the job I'm working on, but it did give a good impression on my CV. 1 reply
My mother tongue is Romanian, I learned French and English in school. When I was in college, I wanted to get an erasmus scholarship, but I didn't get to go to my first choice - France, I got sent to Italy instead. So I learned Italian as well.
My first two jobs were in Italian companies and knowing Italian was a requirement. Now I work in a French ...... 1 reply

I'm a native English speaker, so I appreciate I'm really lucky to naturally speak a language used worldwide. I think I have it really easy. That said I am trying to improve my basic German to one day be fluent, although I am taking a couple of weeks break due to family issues. I just love German and Germany, and also Rammstein lol. The maternal side of my family can speak Spanish ('cause of blood and well, the 300 year Phil and Spain history hahaha). I'm also an N3 JLPT Passer so I can speak Japanese. I'm still studying and plann...... reply
Hiya I'm from the Caribbean and now live in England. My first language is English though I do speak Patois (caribbean dialect). I am currently studying Japanese on my own, mostly because I love the sound of the language and would like to visit one day. I think knowing a different language is definitely a plus is all job aspects so even if you don'...... 1 reply
Except for my mother language, I speak English for possible jobs in the future, not necessarily as a translator (it's not my field) but bc it's often required to know it. But in general I'm interested in foreign languages to travel and see places, not having problems with the language barrier so I can enjoy myself and also because I find all langua...... 1 reply
You could say I learn languages just for fun. Loved them ever since I was a kid to the extent my parents forbid me to talk "English" (which was actually uncomprehensible blabbering) until I learned it in school.
Other than that for traveling and understanding/ conversing with people. I think it's polite to at least greet people in their country's m...... 1 reply
