honestly can someone tell me how they learn Japanese? Preferably someone who self studies like in detail? Do u make a flashcards? Do u study for 5 hours straight? Do u take breaks? I practically can read hiragana and katakana and learning kanji but after that what do u guys think I should do im stuck there
I self studied for a year using the app called drops. It’s free to do five minute lessons every day, so that’s what I did. It helped a lot, definitely have volume on because it uses a mix of listening comprehension and reading comprehension. I would repeat every word you’re learning out loud. i don’t study japanese anymore, but basically what i did is watch japanese media (could be anything: anime, japanese dramas, variety shows etc) with english as well as japanese subtitles and try to connect the words with the translation.
also, on youtube there are videos, where people are translating japanese song lyrics and kind of explaining ...... 1 reply
I don't Study Japanese but Russian and Mandarin. I study 45-2 hours each for each
1:set clear goals (how much of this language do i want to learn?)
2:Expose yourself to the language (Books, Media etc)
3:Find a language partner (Optional, I don't have one)
4:frequency list to start (Words used most commonly)
5:Repeating words to remember them

Well, I first learnt Hiragana and Katakana too. I practice them daily so that I don't forget them.
I use:
-Duolingo: For practicing hiragana and katakana and grammar.
-Busuu: For getting to know the language better. It also explains things nicely, therefore take notes in a notebook.
-LingQ: For vocabulary. Also for Kanji.

It’s a pretty difficult language so even though I know it’s not what you’re asking for, I’d really recommend taking a course on it… Not because you’ll get fluent from one course, but because it’ll set you on a path where you can actually study by yourself and know where to go, if that makes sense? It’s REALLY hard to learn Japanese ...... reply
This is a great question because I'm confused about where I should start first, so I'm gonna wait for someone to suggest the best ways to study.
Do I need to buy books for studying, can I use websites, would it be better to pay for courses? 1 reply
