I think it’s no surprise that bl/ yaoi contains a lot of taboo or problematic themes, but why is incest so common. I don’t even mean step siblings but blood relations. Like I don’t see the appeal and why so many authors would choose incest to be part or the central theme of their stories.
Tbh for me it’s not mostly forbidden love, it’s more like author doesn’t know how to introduce mc with other people or maybe a fast way for someone to be intimate or close to mc is being part of the family who knows them deeply or smth roommates shtick. Taboo themes are all about guilty pleasures.
The tropes are used because the forbidden can add a little thrill for some people. It’s not like they want to do these things irl or even find (in the case of incest) any family members remotely tempting, it’s about the fantasy of doing something illicit. Pure, naughty, forbidden fantasy.

Hmmm, I wouldn't exactly know, but I think it's another some sort of a "forbidden romance" type of way. And because of guilty pleasure, I assume. Is it? I think it's just like any niche fetish that is there but not super predominant in BL and other genre shoujo etc. like the boss seme trope.
