I just don't get it
So I'm a cosplayer and tbh I really feel like I don't look good in cosplay, not because I'm ugly but because of my skin color. I don't understand why I think this way because there's so many amazing and beautiful/handsome black cosplayers out there but when I look at myself there's always something in the back of my head saying "you would look better if your skin was lighter" and I hate it so much. Even just going out with my friends I feel so out of place (I'm usually the only black girl). I know I might sound a little delulu and trust me sometimes I don't get it ether
You are definitely not delulu and your feelings are valid. This is a real problem and sadly a lot of black people feel that way. The western “white” beauty standard that was held up for decades has a huge impact on people, although in the last years a lot has changed through social media.
