cultural shocks
what are some cultural shocks that you guys have experienced? also, do you guys think pretty privilege is a thing? have you guys experienced it?
it was a year ago. my family and i had a 3 weeks vacation to the philippines. it was lowkey creepy since a lot of people were staring at me whenever we cross a street or just walk. i asked my filipino cousin if there was something on my face, since i felt hella conscious. she said no and that it was probably because im eye-catching and im a “mestiza”..? i genuinely laughed at her, since no one in the us stares at you if you’re “eye-catching”. they would usually just tell you straight up if you look good or whatnot. ive also noticed in the philippines that people (especially the guards) tend to interact with you more if youre good looking. its prolly just me tho..
When people think it's weird to eat with your hands..like bro how do you shove that pizza.. burgers...or fries down your throat. I don't see you using any fork or spoons. reply
The whole world is cultural shock for me in its negative ways.
I don't think ppl are aware enough, I see ignorance everywhere regardless race, gender, nationality, etc.
I think world is such a delusion, it has high technology level but in the core
ppl are just dumb and uninformed.
Something must happen to shock the whole world and move things UP.

This has been a shock for me in Morocco but also a bit in southern Italy, although by far not as bad.
Infrastructure is just totally different and there's so many people on the streets, begging and offering cheap items on the beach. Even children begging and a mother with a baby on the street.

Pretty privilege is a thing, my life is easier bc of it and I'm grateful. You can work on maxing out your confidence level and it would serve you the same though

Back in Asia friends or family would point stuff out about you. Not in a bad way, but more like a, 'Oh you have that, do you want to fix it?' type of way. Ex: I had really bad acne a few years back and my aunties and cousins commented on it and asked what happened that made my skin flare up so bad. They gave me some skincare tips and stuff they use...... 3 reply

Haven't been to the US so I only heard this on the internet but apparently the clubs close there around 2am? That sounded like the weirdest thing to me bc in my country most people get there around 1 and we stay till 5 or 6. Sometimes afterpartys start at 6 or 7. Or does this only happen in specific areas? 2 reply
