AO3 Authors and Manhwagas are the same but one is respected
I'm not sure if it's just me but AO3 authors tend to be really respected to the point where even an ounce of criticism, there will be people that will defend them to the bitter end. On the other hand, a lot of Manhwagas(and even some mangakas) are given a lot of shit and are disregarded majority of the time. Why is that? Because I swear they're the same in my eyes if not AO3 authors are worse but why are they given the upper hand?
Cause ao3 authors usually get a divorce, get into a car crash, lose custody of their kids, get a brain tumor, break their tailbone, and commit tax fraud all before a chapter gets out. Girl bffr ao3 authors are NOT respected. And even if they were, for most of them It's earned in my personal opinion. Ao3 authors can genuinely create some amazing works(especially original works) and I think it's due to ao3 being a nonprofit website and allows people to show their passion for writing. well. for one fanfic authors are not professionals nor are they being paid. it's all unpaid labor that is a sheer labor of love born from their passion for a story or piece of media. manhwa artists and authors are held to a higher standard because they are selling their work and it's expected that therefore it will be of higher quality (obvi not al...... 1 reply
Well. Manhwagas get paid it's their job and they need to keep the quality of their work to earn their pay. Ao3 authors post only because they want to, no money involved so it's only fair people don't expect stellar work and they're way more lax with them. reply
Maybe it's because of the readers? I don't really believe that AO3 authors are really that much respected than manhwagas since I've known a lot that have been sent death threats and the like. AO3 writers are more independent and have the freedom to write whatever without a care and their work is non-profit. And on the other hand, webtoon artists,mangakas,manhuwagas most likely work with a team. And they profit from their work so they can't be as silly as AO3 writers and need to be as professional as possible. They also get more criticis...... reply
AO3 authors are a bit different, like yeah they can have illustrations along with their regular work like manga artists but that's not commonly done and they have to put in more effort to make people feel engaged with the story, which is difficult while writing tbh, (I'm trying to write my own fic and mann it's a struggle to get details..)
