Subtext
idk if it's just me but does anyone else kinda feel like bl readers (honestly people who read primarily romance in general but I've mostly been reading bl lately) can sometimes be really bad at picking up subtexts stuff character motivation or emotion it seems like a lot of people on this website are really bad at picking up in like anything that's not explicitly stated by the writer
Idk how else to explain it but I'll see an incredibly basic plot about insecurity or internalized homophobia and how a character struggles with it and comments will be filled with people calling them everything but a child of god and it's weird
Idk sometimes creators are bad writers but a lot of time people are just not noticing what to me at least seems like obvious subtext and I was wondering if anyone else noticed or had theories about why
It just comes with media literacy honestly. They refuse to acknowledge subtexts that goes against their view and/or blatantly ignoring them. One primary example I can think of is queer subtexts/implications between two characters but because it's a subtext, not directly or stating it on a media, they might come to the conclusion that they are just ...... reply
