reading bl is so exhausting for a number of reasons (at least for me) and yes it is not a representation of the community itself so it's honestly fucking disgusting when some would equate it to reality. it's also horrifying that individuals who are self-proclaimed homophobic would admit with their whole chest that they fetishize gay men and it makes me sick. plus the underlying misogynistic theme of a lot of bl titles
As a bi male, I've been around BL since the late 90's and for me personally it depends on the mangaka and the era when the manga was released. Yes there is a fetishism of the characters involved especially in more recent mangas of the last 15 years.
