why do mangakas draw fat people like theyre toddlers
Okay . this is more of a complaint than a genuine answer bc i half know what the answer to my question is (the standard is fat people have to look cute or else theyre 'disgusting' and making grown ass characters look like theyre 5 is the epitome of cute i guess)
ive read around 3 mangas with this problem and i dropped them all BECAUSE ITS SO. ANNNOOOOOYYYYING . GOD . IT FEELS SO UNCOMFORTABLE BC THE WAY SOME MANGAKAS DRAW FAT CHARACTERS IS LIKE A DRASTIC CHANGE FROM HOW THEY DRAW THINNER CHARACTERS AND ITSSOOO!;!:₱2&/;!;!;
ADDITIONALY . finding good yaoi/shounen ai with fat characters is such an abomination bc i saw this more commonly with those !!! and the 2 mangas i read with this problem used the same "this guy is fat so his classmates literally gropes his boobs and treat him like hes a girl" joke and its soooo. Bad. its so irking. i dont know it js pisses me off so bad
if u guys have genuinely good mangas with fat characters (yaoi or yuri!) PLEAAASE give them to me... show me to me rachel pleaseee send it to me
it doesnt have to be characters that are explicitly stated as fat because even just like. bigger than average characters would be good too! (like the character from she loves to cook anf she loves to eat)
wow i never rlly noticed it til now that youre pointing it out and ur so right. ya unfortunately overweight people are either treated as comic relief, extremely infantalized or both. if they are main characters %99 of the time their whole character arc revolves around their weight, its super dehumanizing
another thing ive noticed is that even if the message of the manga is how "everyone is beautiful the way they are!! your ap...... 2 reply
cause they're fatphobic and don't think bigger people can be good-looking. so they make them "cute" for the time being before they have the 1 month time skip where the character magically loses all the weight and is suddenly hot. reply
If I remember right the Missing O has a cute chubby lesbian. I don't remember how often you see her in the story. I wouldn't call her fat, but she is chubbier than the other characters.

She isn't drawn like a baby to make her cute, she is mature and still beautiful and treated with respect. Her love interest adores her and it's really cute
