Y'all weird
I like to read BLs and Yaoi. It was something I always liked since who knows. It was normal to like it and fun to read. Now....if you do like it, you are glorifying gay sex? I'm sure people knows the difference between reality and fiction. Just like if someone likes murder mysteries. Doesn't mean they glorify murder!
I feel like people would find any way to dub BL readers as perverts. Some are adults reading mature stories which was MADE for them. Some are just minors who just are curious (Stay off kids or whatever). But let's be honest. All media is sexualized. Even in the beginning of time. Sex isn't new. Stop acting sensitive that you know what sex is. They make many sex jokes in kids movies. WATCH HAPPY FEET!
But back to the topic at hand. People are just reading gay ADULT men who are falling in love and happen to do ADULT things. Plus most straight ones are just sex harem/cheating/step family/rape your coworker and all her friends type of stories.
To start with, to all the haters who hate fujoshi and BL artists/writers/editors/translators/animators, well, you are free to let us live rent free in your tired little heads.
To all those who read BL and at the same time hate fujoshi (the largest fanbase of BL works done by extremely talented female artists) and all the BL artists and their tea...... 1 reply
yaa pretty much fujos get a general bad rep & it makes me sad ... Kind of like how ppl can have negative prenotions abt furries - bc of the few extremities i presume - even tho they r literally such cool & artistic people. Idk i think its rooted in a need to make fun of ppl who have unconventional interests or interests that aren’t ur own (T_T)

Reading BL in itself is not fetishizing.
However, many readers and authors do fetishize. When they reduce the characters to their sexuality, both how they like men and their sexual actions. E.g. readers obsessing on who is top/bottom when it's unclear and readers complaining there's no smut in not smutty stories.
When they sacrifice realism for "se...... 3 reply
this is so true i think its fine if girls wanna see two hot guys fall in love or get freaky or whatever. im gay i watch it all the time why would i want to deprive a woman of the privileges that we men have #feminism reply

Yikes…
This debate comes around every other week..
Probably because BL is so common on here that it will always be a heated topic.
There will never not be people saying:
BL is porn
cishet women shouldn’t read BL
Fujos are weird
BL romanticizes rape, incest, pedophilia, abuse
So the readers believe that abuse is normal
Etc..
There’s go...... reply
I understand both points. On one hand people are concerned BL will normalize toxic relationship dynamics and abuse. On the other hand people just want to enjoy angsty drama filled plot without being stoned.
I think there’s some nuance to this because I fluctuate between the parties. In fiction there are a lot of plot devices we enjoy solely beca...... 1 reply
I think people point more at the Fujos who start shipping the people around them (I even knew someone who started shipping her boyfriend with one of the boys in their class) or those who make everything "Oh UwU gay sex so hot they are so in love" (like with Killing Stalking, to the point where my local bookstore categorised it under "romance" inste...... 2 reply
"I'm sure people knows the difference between reality and fiction."
Alas, this isn't true nowadays. Otherwise, twitter wouldn't be a cesspool. (=・ω・=) Those people have an immense need to insert themselves in every media and would complain if there's nobody they can self-insert to. reply
