Yes. They're used to connect with the people I know IRL. For example, gc (LINE, dc, etc) for fujoshi, fujoshi & fundanshi, for students, business and solutions, and many other things like a gc full of your 100 guildmates, or other gaming friends, creating bots for guild chats, etc.
