Bl for queer? + AAHHH! UNGHH! FWOP FWOP!
Oh boy how does one approach this topic without getting hot-headed users in.. also this is me ranting - is long so meh I doubt many of you will read it anyways but here goes
Is bl considered for us queer people? (I am gay yes) And no I don't mean "IT'S FOR USSS! KEEP YOUR FILTHY HETERO HANDS AWAYYY" no if you read it yea, cool but just bl seems so fetishized? I see 2 men but yet it's not "gay" it's "bl/yaoi" like somehow we are segmented.
And no if you read bl be my guest, no content is blocked to your access and why should it be? Whatever may be your orientation you have the right to enjoy the works and lately bls pump out soo many good plotlines but just bl doesn't feel yk.. gay?
Yes I'm aware of the argument "it's fictional" or "it's porn get over it" but it doesn't change the fact that it's fiction over very REAL people, It porn about very REAL communities. Am I'm not saying "give us representation!!! Keep shit realistic!!!" but at some point it became just that, fictional men, fictional community that's mostly porn and are told very real people who very much of that group to "just get it over with! We aren't sexualizing the GAYS" bc bl is not "gay"
An example: real gay families aren't really portrayed; it's mostly ABO which is my opinion but it feels like people less validate a "family" if your not pushing out flesh from one of your hole or the traditional method of "the woman and a man". Sex! even with some great stories I see sooo many non-con, dub-con - HECK! It's always a rolled out 'top and bottom' with rare switches, and somehow men are "wet" up their ass like bro did piss go the wrong way? How are you doing that? Also by experience sex isn't always "AHHH~ UNGG~ FWOP! FWOP!" nah bro that shit requires time! Like when bottoms go "wait! Stop!" Bitch it hurts! Stop! Won't be able to take shit for days!
Lol what a rant! I doubt imma get responses but it's just my 2 cent, If this does get responses PLEASE KEEP IT RESPECTFUL!
Y'all are cooking lately asking the cold hard questions I love it. Disclaimer I am a bi black woman (yes it is relevant)
The argument that BL/Yaoi is not "real" and therefore has less merit to say west lgbt rep like say heartstopper (just an example) has always made me flinch. Not because I think BL is real life but because who are you or me or an...... 3 reply
i have no input here other than "fax my brother spit your shit indeed" i agree and i feel the same way which is why i stopped reading bls that are just straight up porn. 1 reply
So I’m queer and I don’t see an issue with straight people reading or creating this content.
But I had a super interesting conversation with a friend that is also queer that made some interesting points.
They brought up that they really have no issue with people consuming it, but the big issue lies in the creation and entitlement of lgbtq co...... 3 reply
As a genre, BL intially branched off from Shoujo manga, which has historically entangled itself with themes of gender, sexuality and identity. For the most part, BL is still largley marketed towards women though has always retained a prominent [queer] male readership.
The idea of demographics is highly contested in anglo fandoms, with the main cr...... reply
Hi! My only problem with your comment is that you think all BL manga/webtoons are all porn, and that is false, there are many BL manga and webtoons that don't focus on the sex. Yaoi BL has sex and Shounen Ai BL is mostly about the romance, I have even seen Yaoi manga where it doesn't just focus on the sex scenes. There are many BL where it's cute a...... 2 reply
Honestly I totally get what you mean. I see some bl (the very unrealistic ones) like the firstly shades of greys and the twilights of this world. I completely get it sometimes bl doesn’t feel « gay » but I feel like that’s because that vibe is in a lot of mainstream bl. But the more you get away from the very famous ones the more you find r...... 1 reply
Ok so here is my input. Bl (or specifically yaoi) is typically stories written in or from Korea/Japan. Both of those countries are still very conservative about gay people or LGBTQ+ ppl in general. So I think they try to use ABO as a cop out because in those countries, having two moms or dads isn’t very common. I have seen and read plenty of comi...... reply
Here's the thing (as someone who is not queer), heterosexual stories are extremely stereotyped and often directed towards a female audience with very 'normal' taste. That is to say that the characters, both the female character and the male, never stray far from the normal. That's why we often have terms like the Duke of North or shadow daddy, beca...... 2 reply
