No, it was never intended to represent the reality or norms in malexmale relationships. It's like how settings in shoujo manga aren't a good basis on how to have a successful relationship between hetero couples.

I do not believe Yaoi is a part of queer culture, neither is Yuri a part of lesbian culture, and those depicting straight relationships are not a part of straight culture either. Manga in and of its self is all fiction/fantasy, written in the perspective of the author. It may have a hint of realism to draw readers in, but that is about it. I just w...... 2 reply

I don't think yaoi is good for anyone. It can be damaging towards the LGBT community and the people who read it as well. We've all seen the crazy fujoshi or two. The type that fetishizes gay men and sees them simply as sex objects. Maybe some of them already thought like that, but most think that way because of the portrayal of gay men in yaoi.
