Okay it's kinda a stupid take but just kinda think about it... Most of these popular BLs really suck. Not just because the MLs are rapist but plot-wise it's so boring and shitty. I mean most of these bls have no business being way too popular than they should be. Like I swear some of these ppl are just gaslighting themselves that they like it- they're also so dramatic about the manhwa ending like "awww I'm going to miss my babies" then it's the most atrocious BL you've seen. They have not once been cute throughout the whole story.
I mean I'll ask someone what's their fave bl sometimes and they'll say the same top 10 thing everyone say in idk tiktok or twitter. Like yk jinx, Codename Anastasia, low tide twilight and so on. Like are there any other BLs that's not popular you've read?? I've seen this one user and they said they've read hundreds of bls and I looked at the list and it's all just BLs that was popular throughout pandemic era. That made me convince are some of these readers just trend hoppers?? Idk just a shower thought
People like easily digestible shit, and it's easy to follow whatever is popular cause digging for niche stuff takes time, and might not be as easily digestible. If anything ever comes kind of mainstream or js, more known and acceptable, there will be people that js do it to "fit in"

tbh i just think they're just new. when you're new to something you don't just start digging into the most obscure shit,,, you start with the popular shit aka the gateways.
like looking back on my origins/gateways (love stage, sekaiichi, junjou romantica) i literally CANNOT reread/rewatch them because they're so out of my taste rn but i DO rememb...... reply
It's the same for anime though.
A lot of people just like what's popular but, that popularity is what gives the genre exposure so it becomes rare to meet people who actually like the genre because they like it and not because it's what's trending.

Gurl chill out, I know what you're saying but that's them and that's not you. If you don't want the stories here, I recommend you read novels. My fav novel currently is "Yes and Yes" , the story is good, the seme is not r**ist, the uke on the other hand is hard headed (*´ω｀*).
