I'm starting a new job.. anyone got any advice on how to behave and be like during the probation period in an office setting ?? Until now I only ever did work from home jobs.. so I don't actually know how to be professional in a work setting.. and act confident so that I won't get picked on or become a doormat for seniors .. any advice is welcome (´－ω－)人

based on what I've gone through, the number one rule is
1) Document Everything. Interactions, receipts, screenshots. This may be paranoia inducing, but office politics can run rampant at any work setting and in case you find yourself needing to back yourself up, you need to have documented proof.

Here are a few things I have learnt along the way.
1) Be proactive, not reactive: Proactively seek out tasks to do and ways to improve work flow.
2) Fake it till you make it: Put on a very convincing act that you are confident, everyone will believe it, and eventually you will too.

About doormat part, it's okay to say no to like work if you're too busy. You won't lose your job if you deny your co-workers, as long as you follow your manager you're good. I don't wanna state the obvious like obviously always have a formal attire like forget about ootd, be formal. I don't know which country you live in but sometimes it depends th...... 1 reply
