Am I too woke?
Okay so, I’ve been on this site for god knows how long. I’ve read tons of manga, manhwa, manhua, and novels — I’m not illiterate. I’ve even published stuff on AO3.
What I don’t get is: why do so many people just forget about the victims of SA in BL and yaoi?
I’ve come across so many works that are cute, fluffy, and funny on the surface. But if you look closely at the details, there’s clear SA in there. And the comment section is just… so forgetting... Like, sure, maybe it’s “needed for the plot,” but is it really necessary?
And when you actually point it out, people start blaming the victim instead. Like… are we even reading the same story??
A nuanced and complicated question with a nuanced and complicated answer. As previous commenters have mentioned, this is a constant topic of discourse - not just on this website mind you, but a debate about the morality of fiction as a whole.
There are a bunch of different reasons, lots that people have already stated: some people are able to enjo...... 2 reply
Because assault is now turned into a form of entertainment. It may sound wrong, but that's literally what's happening when the backstory of a character or their trial and tribulation is literally assault and getting assaulted over and over. Everytime I see this types of post in the forums I question if im living in alternative reality or smth
Everyone ive seen has this exact same take when it comes to SA, but every one of this post sound like 100% of users they see are rape lovers
Like no hate to you I just think is so weird how often I see this take on here 1 reply
The amount of SA added is always sometimes unnecessary like they're being glorified or something. Sometimes I just think that maybe it's like awareness thing like making me realized both women and men get sexualized and SA. But it's also unnecessary because not everyone in your life woulda face the same thing. They could also learn there is SA, con...... 1 reply
tl;dr
Okay so, I have been reading yaoi since webtoons weren't a thing, manhwas were scarce (at least on the internet) and manhuas always had a historical background, and, since then, honestly more then than now (thank god), there has always existed rape and sexual assault in too many stories. You could find some novels, but BL was rare and with st...... 2 reply
No, you’re not too woke. Its just that most people probably only read it for the porn and dont care about the moral or social aspects of it because its fiction. Or they dont want to consider it because it would mean rethinking their world view and maybe acknowledging that something they themselves have done would be considered SA.
As for the SA ...... reply
