Why is straight content so disgusting (himejoshis and fujoshis come comment)
Straight romance or smut as a genre is spiritually exhausted. Same recycled plot. Same “he’s emotionally unavailable but tall” narrative. Same third-act breakup caused by a conversation that could’ve been a text. Literally all they celebrate is humpy day. All the girls have tits bigger than their brains and the guys are always old sperm smelling fatass men that can probably reflect the appearance of target audience. Meanwhile, himejoshis stay winning. Yuri delivers tension, yearning and characters who actually look at each other like they’re thinking. The emotional intelligence alone clears 90% of straight romance shelves.
And before anyone cries bias: Yes, yaoi is also exceptional— but just this once. It at least understands drama, symbolism, and the art of suffering beautifully. The stakes are higher. The emotions are louder. The fans can read subtext.
Straight romance? Afraid of subtext. Afraid of silence. Afraid of letting two characters sit in a room without explaining their feelings in a paragraph of inner monologue.
So no, this isn’t “anti-straight,” it’s anti-mediocrity.
I feel like straight content is getting better. Speaking specifically about josei, shoujo I feel like is a lost cause (though I am really liking Uruwashi no Yoi no Tsuki), same with seinen it's always gratuitously ecchi (but Lady K and The Sick Man is goated).
The biggest problem with straight content imo, which I think yuri suffers from immensely...... 1 reply
