Does gatekeeping websites actually work?
Genuinely curious about this one specially with the recent takedowns on pirate sites, I ofc am all for the preservation of sites like this if possible, but it really makes me wonder if gatekeeping it actually works? coz even if no one shares the site, one google search of the title generates it anyway, it's even topping the actual legit platforms in most cases. If anything, I think the trend of illegal sites being gatekept is actually creating more attention to it which spawns countless accounts who wanna get attention and feel special by spilling it. And if we go back to years ago where sharing of illegal sites was common, it's even worse. So if neither works, I wonder if there's actually a way around it somehow aside from going full black/dark site.
Here's my two cents on this... the point of gatekeeping is not to avoid publishers knowing about a site. the point is to avoid the site getting too popular to the point where it's gabbing the attention of normies that would've bought the official chapters had they not known about a completely free alternative because when that happens that's when ...... 1 reply
