I will get shit for this, but I see people keep linking this guy's post, and it's just, who is he? Like, he keeps talking like the dev, but he keeps saying stuff that doesn't make sense, and people support it and believe him without questioning it? I know only a little about computers, so I can be wrong. If someone knows about programming or servers and stuff, they can correct me. While my knowledge of computers/servers/databases is limited, I can tell if someone is bullshitting.
He said this.
"1. LEAVE YOUR LISTS THE HECK ALONE! Stop making more work for the devs. What part of that do you not understand? Don't touch your lists, don't add to them, and don't mess with them at all!!! If you want to keep adding mangas later, use your browser's (Google, Firefox) bookmarks to bookmark things for now. If you can't do that, write them down on paper (old school)."
then this.
"2. If you email the devs, you will get a bot email back stating that NO, you will not be getting unmarked and unrated mangas back. Sorry, folks, but this is how things go when you lose things to a very big glitch, aka losing equipment. If you get an unmarked or unrated manga back, consider yourself lucky."
I'm sorry, why should I wait when you yourself said that the only thing that is coming back is either tagged or rated? My mangas that I rated came back; that means they are done with my account. That means they will add nothing to it. I don't understand how me trying to bookmark my works again will make the job for the dev harder when they are already done with my account.

"Let me give you all one last heads up. Some of you out there are starting to go ahead and mess with the lists because they aren't locking you out anymore. Please ignore those people. Here's why. They really don't understand computers, software, and websites, apparently. If a hardware piece of a computer, in this case the server, goes down (aka fries), you have to put new software into it. then have to make it connect to the other parts of the server. Then you have to make sure it can link with the website. After that, can you start to try and get back the information from the fried server part? ONE PAINFUL FILE AT A TIME!!!"
That just doesn't make sense when websites these days use automated database backups where this process is bulk-automated. I'm not saying they will come at once, but it still won't be one at a time; working the way he is saying is just unproductive, and any crash can lead to the website being unusable for months.
"Locking everyone out of their lists also locks the devs out. It doesn't work having to lock you out, work on the page, unlock it, check it, go back to locking it, and pull the file (in this case a manga) and put it up on the list. Unlock the check to see if it's there, lock the thing again, and repeat until all the files are pulled."
That just doesn't make sense, and this is not how programming works. Why would they lock you when that will lock them from fixing the list to begin with? Like, my rated works came back after them locking the bookmark. Doesn't this prove that they can bring back mangas while the bookmarking ability is blocked?
Let's say they are right about devs locking the ability for people to bookmark will lock the devs out too, which is so stupid, and if devs don't want people to bookmark stuff, why don't they put a warning on their website instead of waiting for Mr. Xander to tell people to not bookmark stuff when most of the people won't see what he is saying to begin with?
I just saw some users defend his takes, and they don't explain why he is even right? Like, his "computer talk" doesn't make any sense, and I don't know how no one is questioning it. Also, he is rude for no reason.

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying email the dev; please don't annoy them. They restored what they could. I don't think they will give you the list back no matter how many emails you send. I already started to build my list back; I'm not waiting for another month hoping it will come back while my list already stopped updating two weeks ago and is not showing any signs of my other mangas coming back.

I wouldn't put any special weight on what that person says. They don't have any connections to the dev team. They are working with the exact same info the rest of us have been given. They've taken one small thing suujin said weeks ago and have made it the absolute truth when suujin herself has said that she is not a mod or a dev and is only making assumptions based on her own experience with systems. This is no hate to suujin btw. Her info was incredibly helpful and reliable. This is only about this Xander guy taking her words (which were meant to calm and support other ppl) and using them to attack and insult people over what they do with their lists.
If the devs truly were still working on fixing the lists and people modifying their lists was making it harder on them, then it is THE DEVS' fault for not communicating that to the users. Shaming users for adding 1 or 2 manga to their lists is rude and unnecessary.
Yeah, why did the site allow us to add stuff to lists again if that's still not allowed? What else are we supposed to think other than it's a signal to go ahead and start rebuilding our shit?
im crine, who does he think he is
Didn’t MG ever disable the 'add list' feature before? If adding to lists really isn’t allowed, then why don’t they just keep that feature disabled, right?
right, Well, he is trying to say the dev won't lock it because they will get locked out too from editing it. Again, that's just stupid; they are the devs; they can program it to not be that way. What he is saying doesn't make any sense.
