Does top and bottom positions matter to anybody else or is it just me? Like idk I just can’t read stuff where someone is in a position I don’t imagine them in at first like ik this is weird but it just throws me off so badly. I obviously won’t hate on smth if the positions arent what I expect but I lowk just can’t continue enjoying it T-T it’s only rlly with yaoi too like for yuri Im fine with either of them “topping” and in straight smut when I feel like reading it idrc if the girl is pegging the dude or he’s putting it in its just with yaoi for some odd reason. Im fine with switching though we need more of that but when they have set positions and it’s not what I envisioned I just can’t aughhhh. Im usually able to tell positions most of the time too so this isn’t really a big problem, it’s mainly just in fics with my fav ships. Maybe it has something to do with personally and characterization that goes into this? I’ve had this problem for a while and I just wish I cared less. Maybe it also has something to do with power imbalance(?) like how I usually like bottoms to be buff or more masculine ones or just stronger then the top Im some way. Pls help
You're completely valid for this! This is exactly why fanfic writers often specify it in their tags. Whether people like to admit it or not, the way you perceive a dynamic can absolutely influence how you write about the characters, and its totally normal to have a preference for one over the other reply
At first I thought I didn't mind till it came to non canon ships .. as an example whenever I see someone shipping sasunaru instead of narusasu I crah out so bador when people call Bakugo a top like I can accept a switch at most but I only like the ships involving him when he bottoms idk at the end of the day it's just preferences 2 reply
while i do have a preference for twink top x buff bottom pairings (as in, i enjoy reading it more) (not self-projecting bc i don't like having sex irl), generally, i regard them as switches by default. what i HATE tho, is when author/artists drop subtle switch bait reply

It kinda bothers me. It’s not a deal breaker, but it also depends on the writing.
In terms of aesthetics, I prefer characters to kinda have the same build, so in that case I don’t really care about positions, but there’s also exceptions, such as the top being a lot slimmer than the bottom, still masculine.

I think it's just preferences for the trope. Like I like to see the big arrogant guy to be the one bottoming more which is my reasoning for some pairs. For some, it's fine for me either way if they bottom or top or even go both ways. reply
im also annoyed by this only because a lot of the fics i read, they make the bottoms weak and naive like they cant carry a damn molecule or some shit in extreme cases, like the power imbalance you mentioned, so i also majorly favor buff ukes because they usually are a power bottom and has a soft side at the same time 1 reply
