the reasons for yuri/wlw media not getting enough attention as much as yaoi?
my personal opinion is that i feel like it's because there is not much variety of tropes in yuri as it is in bl, and also creators not choosing to create more yuri because most of its audience prefer yaoi. not saying they are the ONLY audience, but the majority. i honestly feel like if yuri had alot more variety of tropes, it could become far more popular
I dont feel like its misogyny like some comments are saying. A large amount of bl audience is straight women reading yaoi, they are attracted to men, and yaoi=hot men. Straight women (most of em) aren't gonna read yuri because they aren't attracted to women. It's mostly lesbian and bisexual women reading yuri and that's not a large market. BTW this...... 6 reply
I feel like the stigma of "yuri's target audience is men/men make yuri" leave people way too comfortable avoiding to ever read yuri, when in reality most people who read yuri are women, and most (keyword: most) of the known authors of the current yuri genre are also women, or not even in the gender spectrum

In a patriarchal society, the idea that women's intimacy exists/matters/should happen is inconceivable. When you strip a media from its presentation of men (regardless of the quality/content of yuri), it ignites anxiety in the viewer. A pit in the stomach that something is missing or lacking. I don't think it's misogyny. When I was around my teens, I prefer Yaoi because it allows me to be more expressive and experimental. I was able to take out myself in the situation allowing me to separate fiction and reality. I don't know if it made sense to you, but taking out a woman in the scene for me allows me to dig into more dark scenarios reg...... 1 reply
i feel it's also the limitations the authors can face when trying to explore topics, there are works that talk or portrayed lesbianism by written by lesbian authors, and some good yuri stories, but even if the work is good it's cancelled or mutilated once it reaches a bigger public becuase people start to fetishes the characters or they rant to the...... 1 reply
Can't wait for some loser to come here and spread bullshit misinformation like "erm because it's made by men for men who fetishise lesbians," "because BL has better relationship dynamics and more interesting stories," or some other word-vomit they pulled out of their ass.
Anyway, I'd say misogyny, but I'm too lazy to explain why, not like it matt...... 1 reply
