This is amplified even more when influencers are backing the product, like the chrome extension honey that turned out to be a scam(obviously). Now you're probably thinking what in the world does this have to do with rape in stories, it's exactly the same. When an act of violence like rape is constantly portrayed in media in a way that makes it seem normal and even romanticizes it, it can make you less firm on your stance about rape and subconsciously change your view on it as something other than a tragic like altering nightmare-inducing experience. Why do you think people will ask rape and SA victims if they "liked it" or said no? I mean obviously we do but people don't take our no seriously because they think it's just us playing "hard to get". You've probably heard phrases like "it hurts", "stop", "let go", "too much", "get off", "I don't like it", and "no" repeated multiple times in many stories before and these are all very clear commands but because of the way that stories make things they've been desensitized to us and sexualized as some sort of tsundere thing, like we're lying and we actually really wanted it. You know where the impact is even clearer is in the places these stories come from, like south Korea and Japan. In South Korea it's dangerous for women to get drunk or even tipsy because men will try to force her home with them and have sex with her while she's intoxicated (and then blame her for being intoxicated in the fist place). In Japan it's such a common thing to be assaulted and groped by men on subways that there is a NAME for the word, it's even a "fetish" that had many stories made about it. And because these stories have been made and our cries have been watered down people are far more likely to be open about this and commit these crimes and even more common to get away with it. Like the case of the 9 year-old girl getting raped three different ways in public by an old man after helping him and then him getting away with it with a sentence of a couple of months because he had the smell of alcohol on him. There are literally signs everywhere there are steps or escalators warning females wearing skirts long or short to beware of people taking pictures up their skirts, this problem is so bad that the government literally made it so phones legally NEED to have a loud shutter sound you can't turn off to try and prevent this. Men aren't allowed onto the floor that malls have photo booths either because it's notoriously common for women to get raped and even murdered in them by multiple men hiding in them. There are tiny police departments literally like ever few blocks to allow women getting assaulted to have an easier time getting to safety and reporting the crimes going on. This has been so so so normalized in the media there that this stuff is normal and expected to happen to you, like remember the whole yandere gag, pantie shot/sneaking a peek gag, and sexualizing minors gag in animes(it has literally turned intk a joke), yes that overtime has an impact and effect on society there, by promoting stalking and sexual crimes so much that it's actually hard to press legal repercussions on perpetrators. You're more likely to be shunned for fighting back and called tainted goods then you are supported because men can easily get away with crimes and they know it. Media has an effect on people and especially young people that don't know any better, being taught that this is how to love someone and show your attraction to them is horrible. Don't hit me with that "You should be able to separate it from real life" bs because it is literally in line with a marketing tactic designed to CHANGE YOUR MIND, and who is most susceptible to this are children who're curious and despite how smart they might be their brain still isn't fully formed enough to fight off this repetitive tactic.''
