I won't name names bc im not hearing anyone out but I once read a book from this popular author. And it was so impossibly god awful like top 5 worst things with more than 10 chapters that I've ever laid eyes upon in my life. So bad to this day I haven't been able to read another one of their works because I genuinely fear spending hours of my life on something that may end up as bad as the first thing I read.
but people love this author sm. Like genuinely so so much and I just cannot get it. Maybe if i stepped on my ego and read their other stuff I'd come around... but like it's so difficult
I think it's made worse by the fact my favourite author is nowhere near as popular so I feel like the romance girlies that suffer every time colleen hoover gets a book deal.
I don't know how to handle this, is it just time to submit myself to their other books and hope i understand? what if theyre not as good as they should be, do i just have to accept the world is so stuck on mid we'll never experience peak? can i ever convince the world to read peak?
Honestly, I feel the same way sometimes. I'll definitely give a side-eye to fans who enjoy books that I think are a straight insult to humankind and I'll vent to my friends or in a Goodreads review, but there's nothing I can do to impact its popularity. I support my favorite authors by buying their books physically or their special editions. In the end, it is what it is, don't let other people bother you and knock you off kilter or waste your precious time on aggravating yourself with an overhyped read.
There's too little time in the world to waste your reading hours on an author you don't like. It doesn't matter if the author or their books are popular or not, they're not going to appeal to everyone. People have different tastes so don't force yourself to enjoy something you don't, look for books that appeal to you. I have plenty of popular authors on my no-read list, I hate plenty of popular books others swear by, it's just my own preference, but I still find stuff I like. Never go by what others swear is "peak"
i think i feel bad abt it more cz i do have a favourite author that isn't as well known by a long shot, and somehow seeing this author get so popular makes me feel bitter. Which is kinda mean cz I'm sure their other works (which r more popular) r probably ok, and either way im being kind of a hypocrite w the whole "no guys don't read that, read this"
but I cant help but hate the author and their fans js bc it feels like "slop" to me. I think thats also part of why i don't wanna read their other stuff, bc if it's not insanely good I'll hate all the fans even more
