cats outside or inside?
so i want cats but the thing is ofc my family doesn’t want them inside.. also the risk of them being outside.. so if i do would i be able to leave them outside? do you guys have cats who live outside? anything i should know?
I'm gonna b real don't get a cat if this is ur situation. Outdoor cats are a danger to themselves & the environment. Either convince ur family to let them inside or don't get a cat, you can't just leave them outside. reply
you REALLY shouldn't have cats outside, it's both terrible for the cat and your local birds. outdoor cat's have a life expectancy of HALF indoor cats because there's so many diseases and predators and cars that can kill them horrifically. it sucks but please wait until you're in a different living situation to adopt one unless you can convince yo...... reply
I think you shouldn't get a cat. If you try to adopt one, you'll be hard-pressed to find one that is comfortable being a completely outdoor cat. Outdoor cats will still need a safe place to eat and sleep. Where will they go when it's really cold? What about rain or snow? Are there any animals in your area that would attack a cat? Our cat is both. He's an inside cat but we're letting him roam outside. We don't confine him, or push him to stay indoors since he loves hunting. He's sort of like a half barn, half indoor. Loool. reply
In my family, we leave the back door open so our cats can go outside and inside as they please, but only because we live on a street that doesn’t get traffic and our cats don’t leave our yard anyway. Also, we bring them inside every night because there are coyotes in my area. The cats are a lot happier with this arrangement than they were when ...... reply
Inside. But, have hope! It took me over two years of hyperfixating and pestering my parents almost every day multiple times a day before I convinced them to adopt a cat. Spend your time while you’re waiting doing proper research, that’s actually what convinced them in the end.
But cats should stay indoors because they’re notoriously sadistic...... reply
mine are indoor/outdoor. more outdoor cause they prefer it. just come home to eat at regular scheduled times and I let them back out after as they head right to the door when done eating. Sometimes, rare tho one might head to the bedroom to nap on the bed the entire day but mostly they sleep down in the horse barn and utility tractor shed. I gu...... reply
TLDR: Dont get an outdoor cat, just wait until you move out
Unless you live on a farm, dont get an outdoor cat. Same as everyone else is saying, extreme danger to themselves and local ecosystems.
I was in a similar situation in that Ive always wanted a cat but my family wouldn't allow that. So what I did and what I would recommend for you is t...... reply
I got a small family of outdoor cats - their mom gave birth to them in the yard. My family didn't plan on taking care of them, we just fed them and at the end we got attached and decided to take care of them full time in terms of food and got them fixed. If one of them looks off we take them to the vet. We can't have them inside for various reasons...... reply
