Talking to your dad

Ive asked way too many questions here but mangago’s community is just so helpful I cant stop asking… Anyway, so I’ve been wanting to do an exchange year and I have to talk to my dad about it. But the thing is, I barely talk to my dad, like at most I say 2 sentences to him in a day and sometimes I don’t even talk to him. It’s not like my parents are divorced its just he probably doesn’t care that much about me. Going back to the main point, how do I ask him for this without making it awkward and actually convincing him?
