As a gay man I'm tired of same complaint and now idc about women in BL

I’m saying this one more time and I have to because honestly? It’s so frustrating and exhausting, and as a gay man who loves , I am so tired of seeing the same pattern repeat over and over You can spot those bullshit instantly: suddenly everyone has opinions, lists of “problems”, demands for changes, and so much to say… but guess what? ONLY when it comes to BL.

You hear them scream non‑stop about this one thing especially: “BL only writes women as rivals, obstacles, annoying exes or barriers! They’re never real people!” Yeah yeah loudest complaints ever… and okay sure, fair enough if you’re looking back at older works or early tropes but hello?! That was mostly the past! BL evolved so much since then. Yet people still act like it’s exactly the same as decades ago and drag it endlessly.

And here’s the part that makes me burn inside: where is THAT EXACT SAME loud outrage and nit‑picking energy when it comes to GL stories? Go look closely, men in GL are treated exactly the same way they accused BL of doing, or even worse: they’re almost always just pushy suitors, useless rivals, meddling nuisances, walking plot devices or obstacles existing ONLY to stand in the girls’ way or force their romance forward barely ever written as full people with their own hearts, goals, lives or proper arcs. And what do those same loud critics do? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. SILENCE. Worse many of them are the same people who jump to attack or complain the second a guy in GL actually gets proper screen time, depth or importance acting like his existence alone is “ruining the genre” or “stealing focus”. Double‑standard much?!

Imagine turning it around and saying loud and clear: “Hey GL needs proper male characters actual human beings, not just obstacles or tools!” you’d get torn apart instantly and told you totally missed the point of the genre. But when you do the exact opposite to BL? Suddenly it’s “valid criticism” and “necessary improvement”. It never changes rules apply only to us.

And honestly? This unfair game plays out every day and it drains you. Half those loud voices never open their mouths at all about how zero proper queer representation exists anywhere else look at mainstream shoujo, josei, all the huge straight‑focused worlds that dominate everything… almost nothing for us, zero pressure to change, zero demands, total silence. But oh so fast they scream: “We need lesbians appearing in BL! Why aren’t there enough?!”… yet you will never hear anyone ask the mirror question: “Where are gay men given fair space and proper roles inside GL worlds too?” It’s always “add our kind to your space”, never “respect your space too”.

And don’t let me forget the most repeated, ridiculous line ever: “BL needs more women characters where are the girls?!”… HELLO?? You picked up, sought out, or watched a genre created specifically to center the romance, lives, bond and world of two men and then you turn around and act like the fact it focuses on us is some huge missing feature or flaw?! Imagine walking straight into GL stories yelling “where are the men?!” or barging into regular romance complaining “why isn’t it same‑sex?!” everyone would call you rude, clueless, disrespectful and totally missing the whole point. Exactly! But somehow it’s treated as okay only when done to BL.

From everything I’ve lived and seen? It never feels like they truly care about balanced representation or fair writing standards everywhere equally. It feels plain and simple: BL is treated like public property open for everyone to police, rewrite, lecture and judge endlessly while GL, straight romance, and every other genre get full respect, boundaries, and a free pass.

We finally got our own dedicated corner one of the few spaces where we aren’t invisible, erased or side‑lined and instantly it’s labeled “too narrow”, “missing something”, “needs fixing”, “exclusive”… meanwhile nobody even cares or notices that we are still almost nowhere else at all.
