As a gay man I’m so damn tired. You can clearly see the pattern: suddenly everyone has so much to say… but only when it comes to BL. Wish you’d bring THAT exact same energy you use to nitpick BL and demand changes and apply it to GL too! Like "we need men in GL who are actual characters and people… NOT just plot devices, rivals or annoyi......   4 reply

Great question and yeah they are NOT the same thing at all. Dark themes like violence, gore, murder, abuse, even depictions of rape in stories, games like GTA, series like Game of Thrones, or dark BL? These are just dark fiction, dramatic devices, plot conflict. They don’t target and harms real people. Its just fiction. Like if we argue about......   5 reply

about question
Can we all finally agree on this? Stop hating and dogpiling on “problematic BL” like the ones with heavy themes like abuse, non‑con, toxic dynamics and all that and especially stop dragging it into Jaxx drama like they’re the exact same thing. Non con and racism is not the same. Like stop with the “why are you against Jaxx but okay with noncon BL?” because once again it’s not the same thing at all!

Dark themes are just dark themes. Graphic violence, gore, murder, abuse, even depictions of sexual assault whether you encounter them in BL, in games like GTA, in massive hit shows like Game of Thrones, anywhere at all reading, watching or enjoying these things once again does not mean you support or condone them in real life. They do not actively target real people, and they do not cause tangible, direct harm to anyone living and breathing. Fictionis fiction. Separate it from reality. At the end of the day, it is literally just entertainment.

If we are seriously going to run with you all logic that “if you write rpe / read rpe stuff / enjoy it that means you’re a bad person” then let’s be 100% consistent about it, shall we? Should we cancel, ban and erase every single story ever written that features an evil serial killer? Should we never again be allowed to have main characters who are absolutely terrible human beings, who do unspeakable things, who get away with every single crime and come out on top every time without ever facing a single consequence? Of course we wouldn’t because we all understand perfectly fine in those cases, it’s just a story. It’s just entertainment.

Like there is absolutely absurd double standard here what exactly makes murder so much more “acceptable” to depict and enjoy than noncon is? Take Alice in Borderland for example like Banda is canonically a serial killer even in real world not just in borderland. He is objectively, far more evil than Niragi And yet people will come for Niragi fans throat ten times harder and act like his fandon is the worst thing to ever exist because on top of being a murderer, he is also written as a rpst but Banda is not a rpist, just a murderer. I’m not even a Niragi fan myself, I'm a Chishiya and I just rewatch a day ago and now I'm a Banda fan too but I'm always gonna be depending Niragi fandom because Niragi is nowhere near as purely evil or dangerous as Banda is, yet no one clocking Banda fans. Or if look at AO3 and fanfics in general, why is everyone swarming in packs to hate, report and scream about any fic that contains non‑con but total radio silence when the if there ks fics romanticizing, making the fictional murderers charming, and fanfics where they face absolutely zero consequences for killing people, the exact thing everyone claims they demand for consequences that rpist characters should get. The hypocrisy is actually painful to watch.

Nobody wakes up wanting to kill people just because they enjoy violent games and people get that perfectly fine, and defend it when governments try to ban this stuff, that “it’s just fiction, it doesn’t make us violent.” So why do people automatically side‑eye, call out, and assume anyone who reads or writes non‑con content actually supports or wants that in real life? It’s the exact same logic. We all understand fictional violence doesn’t equal real‑life violence so why hold sexual dark themes to this totally different, impossible standard. It's just entertainment thats all

However there is a huge non negotiable difference between between all of that and RACISM (HOMOPHOBIA TOO, especially that garbage shit where writers deliberately “turn” canon gay or lesbian characters into straight just to “fix” them). These cannot be fiction is fiction shit. These are use to encourage discrimination on marginalized people. This stuff actively hurt real people. Because once again It fuels real‑life discrimination, real prejudice, real violence and real harm, and it actively reinforces the unfair structures that were built to hold people down. That is the line. Discriminatory propaganda.

And while we’re here can we also finally agree to stop generalizing bl genre as whole as nothing but problematic garbage, and acting like abuse and toxicity is literally all BL is ever about, just so you have a convenient excuse to hate the whole category outright? Because let’s be brutally honest what you all doing that is just homophobia. You never see anyone treat shoujo, josei, or any kind of straight‑centred romance or drama this way. Nobody looks at dark romance and goes “oh so ALL straight romance is just abuse and toxicity right?”. Its just once again scream homophobia. You also certainly don’t see women who read and enjoy dark romance getting harassed and hated on 24/7 to the same degree bl fans get for what for consuming the exact same kind of story. Gay people, queer people, BL fans we deserve fuck up stories like straight do. We normalize gay people in media when we don't treat them like we need to have pure cuteyyy rep all the time.

Normalizing gay people in media means we stop treating us like we always need to be pure, sweet, perfect little “cute” representation all the time. Gay characters need to be messy, complicated, flawed, even terrible characters just like straight does. We don’t always have to be soft, wholesome, or “good role models” or characters need to have consequences deserve to exist in stories. Letting us be dark, weird, evil, or anything else is how we actually become normal, not just wanting pure gay rep. You understand right the balance.

Just scrolling through Twitter and found out there are Thai remakes turning originally straight lakorns into queer versions like the BL remake of Love Destiny, and the GL remake of I Wanna Be Sup’Tar. I only caught on that because someone called Love Destiny is basically just “Love Upon a Time” lol

So I’m curious, what do you all actually think about this remake? Are you guys okay with it, or does it bother you?

I was seriously surprised how there’s barely any huge homophobic backlash. I’m so used to seeing massive outrage every time this kind of change happens in Western media. It really feels like Thai lakorn fans are nowhere near as strict or weirdly homophobic about these shit compared to Western audiences. Like maybe now all know about the drama over Francesca’s in Bridgerton, like how people lost it just because Michael became Michaela. And don’t even get me started on the ridiculous amount of homophobic garbage thrown at HBO over ASOIAF, when GRRM himself confirmed those characters were gay like literally years ago like why are western people so mad for no reason even the man is literally fine with it for live-action like HBO getting hate even when they didn't make things up in the games of thrones one turning straight into gay because they are gay according to the author. (GRRM only gets upset when writers mess things up for erasing Maelor and Nettles just to make Rhaenyra look more saintly. It’s so funny how people turn the house of the dragon drama about “turning Rhaenicent into lesbian” when that’s not even what GRRM is actually talking about at all). The difference between how people react to this stuff here versus over in the West is honestly night and day.

That said, I’m still not fully sold on remaking straight stories into queer ones. Even if it’s calmer in Thailand, I’ve seen how changing straight into gay, gas still end up getting so much unnecessary hate because of it. I’ve already run into so many homophobic straight fangirls on Twitter, Reddit, Facebook, TikTok who are obsessed with Michael Sterling and absolutely fuming that he was changed to Michaela. It’s not just lesbian they lash out at, gay guys get dragged into it too because straight people will blame all the gays because they are homophobic. I much rather we just adapt stories that were always written as gay or lesbian from the very start. At least then, even if we still get homophobic hate, the queerness is actually intentional and meant to be there. I'm especially not here for the homophobic takes when the original author is obviously homophobic cough cough looking at you Bridgerton author. I don’t have a problem with Francesca myself , or with remaking or reimagining straight characters in the books as gay in live action but what really bothers me is there are so many way more deserving original BL and GL novel stories out there just waiting to be adapt and poeple keep wasting those opportunities on stuff like this instead and we get unnecessary hate over it

Am I hopefully not the only person here who finds this such type of fujoshi red flag and straight-up disgusted of them? I’m talking about those specific fujoshis who will ONLY ever read or watch BL in manga, manhwa, manhua, novels, anime. Like as a gay man, I never trust people like this. Not even a little bit. Am I not the only who notice how weird they are? Because every single time, without fail, they end up spouting the most homophobic garbage you will ever hear in this fandom.

Twitter users is the biggest offender of this. It is actually unreal how bad it gets over there. I still remember month ago, a certain JBL smutty live‑action project were officially announced. These Jp fujoshi aka apparently the gays "allies" were screaming at the top of their lungs, being so openly homophobic like they saying “We only wanted this kind of content to stay in 2D! Nobody asked for a live‑action adaptation at all! Stop blaming us fujoshis for its existence or saying we supported it. We also think this is gross!”

This is exactly why I always depend live action BL especially the smutty one . Seeing those fujoshi gush and scream and thirst over every smutty mangahuahwa novel then turn around the second live action BL ever dare to act smutty they immediately find it disgusting? Suddenly the smutty is too much or repulsive? Like that is not just a preference, they literally being openly homophobic.

There’s such a difference between these people who only like liveaction BL and people who only like 2d. People who love live action BL or non 2D BL have well ok reasons because they enjoy seeing real acting, genuine chemistry, and raw, heartfelt emotions brought to life by actual human actors . Some of them might even say stupid shit lol like “I only watch thosekind of BL because Anime/magahuahwa felt for kids". But then there are those fujoshi who only stick to 2L BL is justt.... They do it because they genuinely believe real men, real actors, and actual queer people being intimate or in love is disgusting, wrong, or unnatural. To them, only fictional drawings are “clean” and acceptable.

How can they claim to adore stories about men loving men, yet deep down think the real-life version of that love is something dirty to be ashamed of? Do they not hear themselves when they say, “It’s fine in 2d, but gross when actual humans act in a show”? That is open, blatant homophobia. If they treat BL live action and actors like that, imagine how they must look at real gay men!

Those type of people think gayness is nothing more than a pretty fantasy trope made only for their fujoshi entertainment? That the second it steps off the page or out of the cartoon and into real human actor acting it, it suddenly becomes something gross ? It's not ok for them to consume and fetishize BL all day long, yet the people who bring those stories to life or live that love every day get treated like disgusting. Those type of people need to be called out more.

And don’t even ask “what about queer fujoshi who only like 2D?”, I don't trust them either.

They always say the same tired pattern that apparently gay men/intimacy only looks good in fiction, but lesbian love/sex is good both in fiction and real life. I’m so tired of this “gay men are gross in rl, lesbians are so pretty in both” double standard, it’s just repackaged homophobia. People who aren’t gay men calling gay male intimacy disgusting is plain homophobia. If actual gay men said half this stuff we’d be crucified instantly but 2d queer fujoshi likers say it nonstop and nobody bats an eye. Yet their whole profile are 99% yaoi. If they hate us this much, go read yuri instead and leave us alone. We need people to stop fetishizing gay men. Queer identity is no free pass, queer fujoshi absolutely can and is homophobic towards gay men too. At the end of the day, queer or straight, so many 2D only fujoshi are just homophobic.

Are people in the mangago international BL, manhua and danmei community also excited for the Thai live‑action adaptation of Fake Slackers? Especially those bl fans who isn't really a huge fan of thai bl since they prefer novel/manhua more?

Personally, for me I absolutely love Domundi’s whole lineup, but I’m genuinely nervous about this too specifically. DMD is being so brave taking on such an insanely popular Chinese novel that already has its own enormous, dedicated fanbase. I really, really hope this project is in good hands, because we all know how fast people start spewing hate the moment they hear the words “Thai remake” of any BL from China, Japan or anywhere else, no questions or chances to prove asked.

I’ve seen so many reactions from other site of Chinese netizens and danmei fans just hating for no reason. and it honestly hurts to see the Cooperfofa receiving this much unwarranted hate, especially since they ’s still pretty new to the industry. That said, I also completely understand and respect where danmei fans’ worries and criticisms are coming from. It’s just really disheartening to watch a rookie actor face this level of intense backlash just for being cast in such a massive IP. Can we please at least give it a fair chance first? This is Domundi we’re talking about, the exact same company behind Khemjira and Love Upon A time

Since Leviticus and so many other queer horror hits are blowing up right now… would people actually want and agree if directors leaned HEAVY into gore first instead of romance.

Don’t get me wrong I love the ones we have like The Summer Hikaru Died, Khemjira, leviticus and similar gems are great… but as a gay man who is also huge slasher fan, I’ve been STARVING for the other side. I WANT GORRE MORE

It actually blows my mind how rare it is. Out of everything I’ve watched and read, only Grand Guignol (2022) ever came remotely close to exactly what I’m craving as a slasher fan and even that was far from perfect. Don’t get me twisted: I will defend that movie with my whole chest, but it absolutely had flaws. Nobody got proper depth, backstory or meaningful development. Because of that, it was genuinely hard to feel fully invested or to care deeply when people started dying, and you never really got inside anyone’s head the way you should. BUT and this is the huge, massive BUT the VIBE, the energy, the actual soul of it? 100% exactly what I’m talking about. It was soaked in blood, full of gore violence. Like I want horror gat aka BL— Blood & Lust. (Itsuki and Teshio had absolutely INSANE chemistry together. I would give anything to see those two actors work together again especially main leads in an actual BL or another horror project with gay shit on it)

And YES more of those gay horror shit to be more unapologetic like let it be obvious this was made by people who LOVE gore, torture aesthetics, and horror as a fetish too. Disguised fetish one lol. More sexualized slasher energy but GAY. You know exactly what I mean like once again I want BL aka Blood and Lust (Grand Guignol. Lol kissing each other when they barely just met)

We need more gore, grooming, manipulation, toxic dynamics, power plays, all the twisted themes that fit horror naturally.

I need people to understand: I am tired of almost everything being “BL / queer romance with horror elements sprinkled on top”. I love them but what I desperately want more of is HORROR FIRST that just so happens to have gay character of it. No requirement for a sweet love story, no requirement for them to be good people or healthy role models, no requirement for their bond to be romantic at all. It can just be lust, hunger, obsession, hate, need, or something that doesn’t even have a name. Normalizing queer people in horror means letting us exist everywhere in the genre not only when we’re there to deliver a beautiful love story. Sometimes we’re just the victims running for our lives. Sometimes we’re the killers. Sometimes it’s just: body after body dropping, blood spraying everywhere, clothes soaked red, people getting butchered left and right… and somewhere in between all the carnage, there is raw, unhinged gay tension and gay lust.

Lastly, once again we need more gore horror story with some random gay scenes in between (like kisses and sex). We need BL horror that means once again Blood and Lust
