That incest trope...

So, I've been thinking about different YAOI tropes that doesn't fly with me. You know, the rapey, non-con, violent, and unhealthy stuff, etc. But also another trope I feel like I see very often: incest.

Now, I try to avoid being judgmental. I don't always succeed, but I do try. And it got me thinking, why do I actually dislike incest-stories?

Like, I do understand WHY family members shouldn't Fuck. The consequences and dangers of inbreeding has been documented several times already.

But, in stories on here, it's rare that the incest/reinvest stories lead to reproduction. Of course, we have the mpreg stories, but I have noticed far more stories where the siblings just... Compete / share with each other.

At the same time, incest and incest-like stories with sibling/step siblings often do show up as 'forbidden' but still consensual relations.

Yet, I find it easier to ignore dubcon and non-con than incest.

And when I realized that it made me stop and think.

Like, why would I struggle more with sex between consenting adults/no minors where there is no inbreeding, than with rape? And like, why do we have laws against it in so many places?

Again, I get the inbreeding part. And I fully agree with it. Not just because of the potential dangers, but also because of how it exist so close to eugenics.

My guess is that it is because I come from a large family, and I simply can't imagine myself being attracted to any of my siblings.
