Here are mine: Take 1: People who respond to criticism of taboo themes with “just don’t read it” or call you “woke” are being just as entitled as they accuse critics of being. Comments are open so people can discuss and critique, by that logic, if you don’t like the criticism, just don’t read the comments. It’s also weird how personally some of these people take it, getting angrier than the actual criticism, almost like they feel called out (and given their profile/reading history, they probably are). Another dodge is “you’re not criticizing the story, you’re criticizing the readers”, but if the story is something like shotacon, yeah, criticizing readers who defend it is fair. Continuing to read something doesn’t mean you’re not allowed to feel uncomfortable with it.
Take 2: That said, not everyone who reads dark/taboo media is bad or endorses it. “Well you read dark stuff too” isn’t the gotcha people think it is, some people seek out dark themes for representation (as an SA survivor, that matters to me), others just like the psychological genre and are still allowed to critique what it gets wrong.
Bring back media literacy. Stop harassing people for having opinions.
1. People don’t take the movie jennifer’s body as serious as they should. Calling it toxic yuri seems to downplay jennifer’s horrible situation. She’s a struggling teen that couldn’t express her love and coped by being hypersexual which was used to take advantage of her and she ended up being raped and killed
